Safety Testing

You know I was thinking about it and while the game tells us the safety rating of the car I was thinking about it why not have safety testing. Like crash the car into a wall at 40 mph and record the data and see if you can improve the rating by adding bracing and what not. Most car companies do this kind of testing for all new cars so it just makes sense to me. Would that be even possible or would it just be too much?

nice idea

I’m really keen on this idea, but it is probably too much. We get a safety score on each car, and a breakdown of individual traits relating to that score at the end results page. It is a pretty passive process right now.

I’d imagine that it’d be more trouble than it was worth, to create crumple zones and realistic impact physics, etc. Then you’ve got to think about how all the fixtures would react and how different materials would act differently. It’s a minefield that’d take a whole lot of time just to visualise the stats we’d be given anyway.

This. MAYBE as a DLC way down the line but as I see it now this would be a nightmare to implement, I would much rather have a finished game than one with constant feature creep.

I’m 99% sure there won’t be a graphical representation of a crash test. It’s already covered by the safety stat, and since watching a car crash into a wall won’t really help you tune a car, it’s definitely more trouble than it’s worth.

Yeas, would be really nice to have this in, but is definitely outside of the scope of the game.

Well never said we need to visually see it while that be neat I feel like its way to much I was thinking more along the lines of adding bracing in key spots would help improve the body safety rating and adding other things would remove them. Bracing in the doors helps from side impact improves safety rating making it a convertible lowers it. Just a thought doesnt need to be super complex I was saying it just be nice. :stuck_out_tongue:

That would kinda have to go in the fixtures section, while as is, these things are covered in the safety features section. If one would move safety features into the fixtures section, that would mean a whole lot of development work and I guess it wouldn’t be enough fun to make it worthwhile…

One thing I have always had issues with the safety stat is that it considers weight, and gives lots of points because a car is heavier. However, due to the way that crash tests happen in real life, it really only simulates a car hitting a similar car (on the frontal impact, of course). Maybe, there could be a secondary safety stat, which wouldn’t account for the weight and that could be used as a marketing bonus of some kind, almost like how getting five stars on euro ncap or the top safety pick prize from the NHTSA helps the sales, especially in mom-mobile markets.
Or maybe, it would be a bit pointless and useless.

@Leonardo9613: The current “Safety” detailed stats tab doesn’t have a lot of material in it - it’d probably be feasible to add separate entries for single-vehicle and multiple-vehicle impact safety among the numbers being summed to calculate total safety. The former would then penalized by additional weight while the latter is improved.
