Sandbox player placards

I think it would be awesome to have the placards from some of our most famous player companies up on the walls around the shop. Shouldn’t be too difficult.

Yes, I don’t think so.

Who would draw the line there? How do you plan on choosing the most famous companies?

There will certainly be people who feel cheated . That just doesn’t sound like a good idea for me, at all.

As much as I love the community, you’d be kidding yourself if you thought this could be done in an impartial manner that would please the majority of people.

Have a selection box in the options!

A poll? I still don’t think that would go over very well.

Do explain further.

Everyone who currently has their company name and logo permanently in place would be able to add such items to the game. Just one or two here and there. The choice of which placards go where would be completely left up to the player. So If I wanted Normandy smeared all over the eastern wall that’s cool. Maybe I’m feeling some Swanson Motorsports, or maybe I’m even in the mood for some Camoria. Whatever. Just some simple image conversion and places a logo somewhere in the garage.

I bet Daffy won’t be pleased about this idea…

So what you’re really asking for here, would be a way to customise the internals of the garage itself as appearing in the car designer UI.

That does kind of go well outside the scope of the game, and I wouldn’t have any idea how it would work as part of the default UI. Given the market for Automation is much wider than the forum community, it certainly wouldn’t seem like something that should/could be applied to the game itself.

But, and this is probably a complicated question, is there a way for us to customise our own garage environment without destroying the code or gameplay? It just seems awfully involved.

(On a separate note, what would seem like more fun is if people started fleshing out their own companies, since this appears to be more an In Character type enquiry, which is largely within the scope of Automation Hub!)

I mean, you could see it as a neat idea, but I don’t much like it, and it adds exactly nothing to gameplay.

I’m not trying to mess with the UI. Just the garage environment. Changing so many pixels on a wall to show an image of a company.

But, being able to customize what you see when you swing the camera around would be cool.

Well, It would be neat if it got opened to modding.

How difficult would it be? It has some cosmetic applications for those so inclined… But probably only cosmetic.

A somewhat better idea. Just have a logo on the wall, like say a flag or something you you can select from a few default ones, or one you made yourself, to display on the wall. Perhaps later, to paste on your car as well as a decal type thing.

Think of how Kerbal Space Program does it, nice and easy, and we don’t have people fighting over who gets to be in the game, and they don’t have to support modding the building interiors, and it allows the game to feel a lot more customized with little extra work. That is 1 texture mapped rectangle per scene, a flag selection UI, mayer later a decal that uses the same texture as the rectangle, a little backend code to load what ones you can pick from a folder (just used the png image loader they currently have in place for the thumbnails).

The hardest part will probably be mapping that image to the rectangle in the scene, since the game engine may not support that kind of thing by default, and making the UI (which can be a whole different kind of evil).

If they just release the garage with some moddable posters and such, I am sure you can mod them in yourself pretty easily and have it random select pictures to post on the wall.
I dont think any other way this would really benefit both game and community, as said before, people will feel cheated as in: “Why is his car in there, but not mine?!”

Though on the flip side, if there was a way for me to pimp out the garage, by jove I would be all over that in a flash…

Heck, to go all mental on the idea; Get highest rated cars to be displayed inside the game from AutomationHub hahaha!

+1. Easiest way to implement this would be to allow you to copy an image/few images to a folder, and when named correctly, displays on the walls as opposed to a default generic image. As long as the texture files for a certain space is unlocked, you can just create a blank canvas with the same proportions and then fill something onto it. However, doubt it’ll be focused on any time soon. Gameplay comes first.

This.

I strongly suspect you will be able to design your company’s logo with the final game, and it seems like a pretty good idea to see your company logo in your company garage.

Highly unlikely, since Automation is not a logo maker. Also, 3D logos are much harder to implement as a free to design kind of thing.
