just my suggestion, some type of self driving/autopilot capabilities for 2020, because we are progressing quite well today so it wouldn’t be too unrealistic, adding it would probably increase things like comfort, drivability, or maybe even alot more, just a random thought i had
How the tech system in Automation works is different though. You can assume that the pioneers are at Techpool +10, which means that we would have to see these systems fully working already in 2010 to be something really worth it to include in the game. It’s not difficult to do at all though, so we might still want to consider adding this. As it is a matter of a few minutes to add it to the game, but many many hours balancing it, we best wait and see if such an option plays well/is needed when balancing the campaign gameplay.
thanks for the reply killrob, and yeah i know that’s how it works, but it would still be semi-realistic because they researched the technology
not to make a new topic…
cruise control as an assist?
Too insignificant I would think? Why would you not always activate that?
older cars obviously don’t have the option
and most cars in the 90s/early 00s didn’t have cruise control as standard, only as an option
edit: and a tick box in driver assist box won’t overcomplicate things
Well cruise control should be expensive when introduced so only luxury cars have it but it should get cheaper and cheaper until is included for every car just like ABS or power steering.
Same could be said for air con, too.
Although I wouldn’t want to see air con actively affect driveability/sportiness, because (like cruise control) it isn’t an “always on” feature.
I would want those optional tickboxes to affect vehicle weight, cost, the comfort stat, and maybe PU - but don’t let it mess with sportiness (except unless that extra 30lbs really messes with my weight balance or I have a 70hp motor I’m pushing it all with).
A good idea would be to divide the presets into individual tickboxes, so you can fine tune your trim.
When the discussion comes to that final post (as it usually does), the discussion turns to “what do you replace on the UI?” When it comes to the interior trim tab, there isn’t that much room for extra stuff, if you wanted to add an entire submenu to it. I say this despite thinking that there would be some usefulness in having these detailed options when it comes to designating trim levels, but again, that depends on whether the tycoon mechanic can accomodate it.
You wouldn’t have to replace anything, it could go into the same box where ABS and Power Steering are. If that box does ever get crowded, then a scroll bar would help us. Very little UI change, if at all, really.
Things like cruise control could come out in the 70s or so, then eventually be replaced by adaptive cruise, or like OP said, self-driving (although I’m not terribly interested in that particular idea). Air con could eventually become climate control, or standard a/c could stick around as a lower cost option. Etc, etc.
I was thinking about something similar to the turbo and the suspension setup with presets and detailed options for fine tuning and/or flavour.
What I’d really like to see is sort of an options list -
You can have those tick boxes still, but have another row added (or something similar) so that I could tick off things like ABS, A/C, PS, CC, Power windows, locks, etc., as either a standard (mandatory) feature or as an option. Then when each car is sold, the “customer” could order the options ala carte. I’ve never bought a car new before, and I don’t plan to, but I think that’s more how it works in the real world. And the same thing for transmissions is desperately needed! It shouldn’t be a completely different trim just to spec AUTO or MAN.
Then you could see a breakdown later on when looking back at sales for a model - Say you sold 10,000 of your Model 1, and 6,200 people opted for power steering, 985 for an automatic gearbox, 3820 for air con, 300 for power windows, etc., etc.
It’s a bit of an overhaul, so I don’t have much hope in it coming to fruition, but that’s how I would like it to actually play out. Maybe Automation 2.
This would indeed make a lot more sense, considering how real life works. But the latest additions to the game seem to have detached itself from reality, therefore I don’t think your logical, box-ticking solution will be used.
It could have development costs associated with each option to be made for the car, for example, adaptive dampers cost quite a lot for the R&D team.
@ArnRno: Choosing individual options is how it used to be done, so manufacturing costs were much higher as all option variations had to be made. In the present, options tend to come either fixed with different trim levels or with options packages, where you could have a tech options package added to a trim that adds rear DVD players, more speakers, etc. The only options you choose individually are mostly dealer-installed, such as hood deflectors, cargo nets, bike racks, etc. There are sometimes individual factory options, but that’s not really the trend nowadays. I do agree with the transmission, but you can always replicate all the features between trims to only have automatic or manual transmission as differences.
