So have played the game for a week now and its great for a car lover like my self.
I now it is stil in beta state.
But i have some suggestions for optimizing the game exspirience.
First of all better multi CPU core support. My own core i7 920 overclokket to 3.8 GHz more or less only runs on one CPU core wile the other 3 cores nealy do nothing.
Means one core have about 80-95 % load and while the other cores only are loaded about 10-15 % max.
Multi GPU support. Propperly going to be up to Nvidia/AMD whit there drivers. I have 2 GTX 660 TI Cards in my PC running and of it is now only one Card is used. The game maxet out kills one Card, so whit multi GPU support i and other whit multi GPU setup would have a better exspireence.
more FPS (frames per second) support while playing. 60 FPS or better i would like.
And i have a few bugs, but sence it is still in beta state. i will let that go for now.
Sorry my english is a bit rusty. Not my main language.
From what I have learnt about development while being in the project cars pre-alpha, it is worse than pointless to do any optimisation until the game is feature complete, because any optimisation you do could make adding the next feature more difficult.
I only have one GPU so i havent really paid much attention to crossfire/SLI, but from those that have been playing project cars with two GPUs they have found that using the AFR mode (alternative frame rendering?) of SLI/crossfire worked quite well. Again, I suspect this will be sorted when the game is feature complete and they are in the optimisation phase
It doesn’t use much in the way of multiple cores as it rarely is CPU-bound, its usually GPU performance limited, plus the more multi-threading stuff you have the more nasty problems you can end up with. The car performance calculations are going to be pretty multi threaded to stop them taking a second or so though (and because they’re easy to thread)
We do need to have a look at multi GPU stuff at some point, although most people with multi GPU rigs have high end enough cards for it to run perfectly already.
I’m not sure why you’d want more than 60fps as only a few monitors would even display them all, and even then you’d most likely not be able to physically perceive the difference. I do agree we need to improve its performance in general though.
if people are forcing 3D through some method then they might need more than 60FPS because the 3D effect can halve the perceived frame rate depending on how its done.
I would normally go on a massive rant about how we can definitely tell the difference between 30/60/120/whatever FPS because the misconception that we cant tell the difference between them is a massive pet peeve of mine, but as you say automation really doesn’t need high FPS (hell, i didn’t really mind when my framerate dipped down into the teens for some reason)
I find personally I can’t see the difference above about 40fps, good point on the 3d though.
Depends on the game you’re playing of course Civ V definitely does fine with 30+ fps, while shooters only really start feeling good at 60+ fps. For 3D that would need to double that of course… the current settings are not set in stone yet, we’ll see where it makes sense to end up later.

Good idea about AFR mode. Will try that out later

you right about the game isent CPU intens as it is now. But there i still think multi core support would be great is in multiplayer. Because there happens more at the same time than in single player. And thats why the need of more CPU power. Games like battlefield 4 are deffently more CPU intens in multiplayer than in single player.
About multi GPU. Great to se you agreed. Yes some people have 2 powerful Card, but not all. Some later ad another Card to there exsisting Card in there PC. Like i do. But if you Guys will do multi GPU support, so just keep it at 2 GPU´s. Not many use more than 2 Cards and 3 or 4 GPU´s scales bad any way. Im not sure, but i think for the bedst multi GPU support Work whit Nvidia/AMD on that in there drivers as well in the game.
About FPS. I wanted more FPS than 60 if there came 3D support for the game ass one all ready have talked about. There 120 FPS would be needed. Else 60 FPS is fine. Right now is not optimal. It dosent matter if i set Quality to lowest or max. FPS is the same around 21-23 FPS when i test and engine. So there need and improment i would say whit the finish game.
Why i whant 60 FPS i because V-sync or Vertical synchronization runs at 60 FPS and offcause for prevent spike lags where FPS drops under 25 FPS.
But else keep up the good Work and im sure Automation gonna be great game. And i like the engine sounds
