I can’t speak for active springs or dampers, but given that this is for a spec series with no constructor R&D wars and so on, I’d opt for a handicap instead of an outright ban.

How much scrutiny will be put into engineering realism? It’s a 3-star priority, but Automation in its current form is pretty limited in terms of weight balance, so if I want to use materials and structures that wouldn’t normally be found in the specific type of car to manipulate the weight balance outside of the scope of what the slider can do, will it automatically score bad in that area? This is also why I would like to use other than Basic, Sport and Race interiors

I’ve updated the rules again: Hydropneumatic, Air, and both Active suspensions now increase SVC by 10%.


For realism, I will check that every engineering choice makes sense for the type of car you send.

… I’m still confused about what type of racing category to enter: is it the production alike side or the hyper prototype side?

You’re not entering a category, you’re creating a category.

Look through the inspirations, they’re all one-make series. That means that everyone turns up to the track with the same car, and it’s up to driver skill (and ability to set up the cars).

That could be the production side, or it could be the uh… Not-hyper prototype side. You can submit a production-derived car, but you can also submit a one-off openwheeler or endurance prototype style car, just without the massive budgets usually inherent to those - like the Formula Ford example.

Important change:

The rules say “No negative quality”, but that was meant to be “No negative quality or techpool”.

I don’t like changing rules after the challenge opens, but since no one has submited yet and it’s a big issue, I’m updating the post.

The only thing it has in relation to the normal Legate is the shape of the bodywork, everything else is made for this car, and this car alone. Double Wishbones front and rear, working headlights and taillights, and capacity for Wet running, the SpecA should be a fun mid-to-high tier car for Spec series motorsport.

Probably a bit late to ask this now but the car doesn’t necessarily have to be like a brand new 2020 car does it? Would like an historic racer or something that’s been round a while work, like the tvr Tuscan challenge?

I assume this is what the beetle funcup thing is, but I’m not sure.

Yeah, trim has to be 2020 but model year can be older.

The funcup is actually a purpose built racecar with a space frame chassis.
