Presenting the second generation Kováč Nováček: A lightweight fun hatchback that goes easy on cost but all the way on driving pleasure!
The Nováček was introduced in the late 60’s/early 70’s and spanned into the 80’s too, in 1980 there was a specialised Mountaineer Pack focused on off-road usability and style, though it was replaced by the second generation in 1993.
Previously rear-engined rear-wheel-drive, the second generation is front-engined front-wheel-drive, with a larger size 2.4m wheelbase opposed to the first gen’s small 2.0m wheelbase, the larger size provides increased passenger space, practicality, safety, and comfort, whilst not becoming overly heavier weight, maintaining a relatively light 954kg weight (on the VTI Cesta trim).

Offered in various trims, the featured VTI Cesta (Grand Touring Injection Road-going) is powered by a naturally aspirated twin-cam 1.6L 16-valve inline 4 producing 138.5hp & 114.1lb-ft. The VTI Cesta trim is a step up from the standard ones, but one below the rally homologation model VTI-S Kit Car (S for Soutěžní = Competition) which features a similar but larger and more potent 2.0L inline 4. The VTI-S in racing trim was entered into the likes of Group A and FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup races.
The VTI Cesta uses the same bodykit & spoiler as the VTI-S Kit Car homologation car, showcasing the competition car styling with a bit less performance, a lot cheaper and with more comfort. It features a 5-speed manual gearbox with limited-slip differential, lightweight alloy wheels, front vented disk brakes, front lightweight sports seats, premium CD player, ABS & Traction Control, rally style mud flaps, front fog lights, as well as optional “16V VTI Cesta” sports side decals.
Able to reach near enough and over 150mph in testing, as well as pulling a maximum 0.86g of cornering G-forces on medium-compound tyres, with a 0-60mph time of just under 7 seconds and being able to do a 1/4 mile in 15.16s, the Nováček VTI Cesta is quite a zoomy hot hatch with the stylish, sporty, competition styling to match.
