Hot off the failure lukewarm success of being a runabout, Cygneoie added a fourth cylinder and a turbo to their Poulian, as well as lowered suspension, beefier brakes, and cosmetics additions of ‘go faster parts’

The 1993 Danna Tokay (Minita)

In 1992, Danna introduced a hatchback variant to their Tokay platform, the Minita. This variant had a slightly more efficient but less performant 1.9L I4 engine when compared to the sedan's 2.0L V6, and a somewhat cheaper interior design. They made the interesting decision to implement a longitudinal front wheel drive, eliminating the risk of torque steer but meaning the engine bay was *very* tight. Nevertheless, it proved quite performant.

Thanks to its older chassis, the engineers were very familiar with the platform before they developed the new wagon facelift and its budget friendly interior options, the tokay wagon goes for a mere 9 Thousand Dollars, 70 thousand Krona, at MSRP, cheaper than most comparable vehicles by a significant margin. To complement this, it runs a very efficient 8.2l/100k, and does so on cheaper 91 RON “regular” fuel. In some countries, it is even subsidized by governments seeking to encourage the sales of a vehicle that meets emission standards that won’t prove mandatory for another 20 years.

Ultimately, the 3rd gen Tokay’s hatchback variant will only be sold in 1992 and 1993 before the whole platform is replaced by the Mk.4. For now, though, the showroom awaits.

Fig. 1: In 1991, newly built Tokay’s replaced their aging dash cluster with a projected heads up display. This design was carried over to the cheaper “Minita” hatchback variant. While many consider it a gimmick, the ability to see your speedometer without looking away from the road is ultimately a safety feature that many can benefit from. Also visible is the vinyl trim strip meant to appear as walnut - it will peel off if you touch it, but the underlying plastic probably looks better anyways.

Fig. 2: The tokay’s unique front lighting arrangement uses only a single bulb per side for low and high-beams, with the projector pointed 20 degrees downwards and half obscured in its lower form, and popping up to a level position when the high-beams are engaged.

Fig. 3: While the hatch variant loses the rear spoiler, the additional weight on the rear axle and switch to front wheel drive actually causes a decrease in oversteer compared to the sedan trims, with the wagons tending to terminally understeer instead.

Fig. 4: The fuel cap is visible near the rear on the passenger side.

Kováč Nováček VTI Cesta '93

Shown in Tlumená Zelená (Muted Green)

Presenting the second generation Kováč Nováček: A lightweight fun hatchback that goes easy on cost but all the way on driving pleasure!

The Nováček was introduced in the late 60’s/early 70’s and spanned into the 80’s too, in 1980 there was a specialised Mountaineer Pack focused on off-road usability and style, though it was replaced by the second generation in 1993.

Previously rear-engined rear-wheel-drive, the second generation is front-engined front-wheel-drive, with a larger size 2.4m wheelbase opposed to the first gen’s small 2.0m wheelbase, the larger size provides increased passenger space, practicality, safety, and comfort, whilst not becoming overly heavier weight, maintaining a relatively light 954kg weight (on the VTI Cesta trim).

Shown in Pomerančový (Orange)

Offered in various trims, the featured VTI Cesta (Grand Touring Injection Road-going) is powered by a naturally aspirated twin-cam 1.6L 16-valve inline 4 producing 138.5hp & 114.1lb-ft. The VTI Cesta trim is a step up from the standard ones, but one below the rally homologation model VTI-S Kit Car (S for Soutěžní = Competition) which features a similar but larger and more potent 2.0L inline 4. The VTI-S in racing trim was entered into the likes of Group A and FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup races.

The VTI Cesta uses the same bodykit & spoiler as the VTI-S Kit Car homologation car, showcasing the competition car styling with a bit less performance, a lot cheaper and with more comfort. It features a 5-speed manual gearbox with limited-slip differential, lightweight alloy wheels, front vented disk brakes, front lightweight sports seats, premium CD player, ABS & Traction Control, rally style mud flaps, front fog lights, as well as optional “16V VTI Cesta” sports side decals.

Able to reach near enough and over 150mph in testing, as well as pulling a maximum 0.86g of cornering G-forces on medium-compound tyres, with a 0-60mph time of just under 7 seconds and being able to do a 1/4 mile in 15.16s, the Nováček VTI Cesta is quite a zoomy hot hatch with the stylish, sporty, competition styling to match.

The Kodori Foal GT - Making straights shorter, and corners straighter since 1993

Based on a boring, every-day, practical family hatchback, the 5-door Kodori Foal GT, bearing the top-shelf 4Z14T motor was Kodori’s answer to the ever-increasing demand for hot-hatches. Despite its modest base, Kodori’s engineers made no compromise in providing a pure, exciting driving feel to surprise even drivers of top-tier exotic equipment. Mated to the 4Z14T was a 5-speed manual transmission (optionally a 4-speed auto) which made the Foal GT a thrill to drive.

The Foal GT is also the leading standard for safety in Kodori vehicles, well exceeding WES8 requirements, and the Aluminium/Steel panels laid on top of a galvanised steel Monocoque protecting occupants in the event of an accident. The aforementioned 4Z14T, the turbocharged variant of the motor which powered the previous Foal GS model released in Q4 1991, boasts an impressive 133hp/170nm - easily propelling the 1120kg Foal GT ahead on the road. The Foal GT achieves 0-60 in an impressive 9.0s, and handles corners equally well as it does the straights.

Simplicity, light-weight, and performant handling was of utmost importance to the Kodori engineers, who fitted the Foal GT with 175/65R14 tires all-around, and fully independent suspension all around. Handling was a factor in the decision to go for a steel monocoque, with its rigidity adding to the handling characteristics of the Foal GT.

Despite this performance orientation, the Foal GT is no stranger to everyday creature comforts, such as an onboard heater, a CD player, comfortable (and easy to clean) cloth seats and floor carpets, plus folding rear seats for extra luggage space and power assisted brakes with ABS to keep you extra safe on the roads.

All this in one cute-looking package with 3 years/75000km comprehensive warranty for just $18,700.00 AMU? You’d be silly not to.

KODORI - Because fun matters.

Updated for 1993, the GSP Jedermann SP

We’re meeting a demand for an affordable yet fun hatchback, while also keeping some of the GSP Premium feel intact. The SP Package meets your expectations, and then some. CD Player and A/C come standard with this package, with your choice of a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic.

The SP package also gives you a punchier CA18 I4 engine, getting 131hp while meeting modern emission demands. This allows the Jademann to see 100kph in just 8.3 seconds. All while getting a combined 8.46l/100km. Who knew owning a GSP could be affordable?

Griffonstone Premium Vehicles: We don’t just make cars, we also just make sense.

Yes, I know where the name Griffonstone comes from. I don’t care, it goes hard.

We at Canary Motor Company are proud to introduce you to the next generation of affordable performance vehicles, the FH-258 Foxhound:

The Foxhound was built with specifically to challenge the notion that you have to choose between a fun car, and a useful car. That a car can’t possibly be fast enough to challenge V8 muscle, safe enough for a family of five, and affordably priced both off the lot and at the gas pump.

To such an ambitious end, a car needs to have a truly exceptional base. Fortunately, that’s just what the Foxhound gives you:

  • An all-aluminum Hood, with a galvanized steel underbody, combines low weight and high corrosion resistance
  • Transverse FWD gives maximum legroom in a small body, and allows the Foxhound to use a bulletproof Torsion Beam rear suspension

The Foxhound marks the introduction of a brand new engine series as well: the 1.81L A.V.A.L.O.N: That’s Advanced Valve, timing And Lift Operations, Naturally aspirated. When you’re gently cruising around town, the valves give you the economy of your typical commuter car, with more than 30 miles to the US gallon [7.5L/100km]. But life’s not all about the destination, sometimes it’s the journey itself you want to savor. When you really want to pour on the coal, the valves open up for maximum airflow, letting the Avalon put down more than 140hp at the wheels.

That’s right, we said at the wheels. Because at Canary Motors, we don’t play around selling “what if” or “what it could be”, we sell you what it IS. And what the Foxhound is, is a car that will get you to 60mph [100kmh] in less than 7 seconds, on a top-of-the-line 5-speed stick shift. What it is, is a car that will bring you from 60mph to a standstill in 3 seconds, with 4-wheel ABS to guarantee that maximum brake pressure from you, always means maximum braking power from the car. What it is, is a car that hold 0.80G in a turn with factory tires, without ever risking oversteer. All of this, for a sticker price of $19,000 AGD

Thanks to the latest in wind tunnel testing and aerodynamic simulation, the Foxhound can not only effortlessly slip through the air, it can channel this air for its own use: The factory-fit “Axial-Flowcaps” pump air through the brakes for maximum cooling, by drawing the annoying, liftmaking air from the underside and pushing it to the sides. Combined with a rear wing to keep the tires planted during maximum deceleration, the Foxhound can make a controlled stop from 60mph in under 150ft [45m].

Don’t think that this power and speeds comes at the cost of daily driving or safety, either: The variable-strength power steering system ensures parking is effortless, while highway driving remains stable and confident. We’re so confident in our work, we make you the 50,000 mile [80,000km] promise: If you can find anything wrong before 50,000 miles, no matter how big or small, we’ll fix it for you, no extra cost.

And if you’re looking for the airbags? Don’t worry, we brought two: one for each front seat. Because as incredible as our car can be, the most incredible thing is you and your family.

Swing by your local dealer today, and ask them about the new Canary Motors Foxhound.

1993 Famal Myria XCS

By 1993 Myria already had the hot GTI variant, but it was somewhat ascetic. That’s why Famal decided to experiment a little and create a… pocket GT of sorts? XCS stands for “eXperimental Comfort Sport” - this Myria not only had performance, but also a really nice equipment level for a car that small. To not lose the sporting edge of the GTI, Famal engineers basically implanted the whole front end tech from the larger Avance GTI into the XCS - and that included a 2-litre, 16v DOHC unit. It made 155 hp* and 197 Nm of torque, which gave the little Myria - weighing barely over a ton with it’s fancy interior - a 6,5** s 0-100 km/h time and a 220 km/h top speed. And all that for just 16 300 AM$.

* PS technically, as that’s the typical continental Europe unit :stuck_out_tongue:
** on optional sport tyres; 6,8 s on regular tyres

I am posting Nocturnes car here.

Lore: After filing for bankruptcy in 1988, Hoffmeier-Valdez Group’s assets were sold to Alliance Autotopia. Although the Valdez brand was quickly discarded in the aftermath, Alliance Autotopia saw value in keeping around the Hoffmeier nameplate as a division, as its core of front wheel drive commuter cars was a market that had been previously lacking from the larger conglomerate. Introduced in 1989, the fourth generation Hoffmeier Type 4 was a sorely needed breath of fresh air for the German manufacturer, and was a convincing response to increased competition in the C segment market from Japanese and French brands. At the bottom of the trim lineup were the robust 4-19d diesel and the economical 4-15i. The next step up were the 4-19DTS turbodiesel and the 4-18CXI, the latter retaining the venerable Throttle Body fuel injection system that had made its debut in the 70s. At the top of the range was the 4-18GTS, which added multi-point fuel injection and a centrifugal supercharger to the 1.8, boosting power to 155 hp and adding an all wheel drive system with Torsen limited slip differential. The 1993 refresh of the Type 4 saw an interior overhaul, multiple exterior cosmetic changes, and two new sporty trims. The more memorable of these two was the 4-22TXi, with a whopping 195 hp out of the 2.2L inline five thanks to a sequential turbo setup, available with an industry first 6 speed manual transmission. Also new for '93 was the 4-18 Kompresor, which was intended to be a milder sports trim. The EA18 1.8 four cylinder retained its single overhead cam layout, but introduced Hoffmeier’s first ever multivalve layout. This, coupled with Multi Point Fuel Injection and Variable Valve Timing, saw power boosted to 125 hp. The Kompressor was the most sought after of the sports trims, with its $13000 starting price, front wheel drive layout, and close ratio transmission making for an exceptional budget hatchback fit for rallycross, autocross, and track days alike.

SAARLAND KOSMOS ES-16

*When we created the Kosmos ES-16, we kept all that made its predecessor so great, like low weight, secure front wheel drive handling, a streamlined shape for speed and economy, and an 150 hp, DOHC 16 valve 2 litre engine.
*

At the same time, we improved its driveability with standard power steering and an all new traction control system.

We improved safety with door reinforcement beams, anti lock brakes, pretensioning seatbelts and a stiffer bodyshell than before.

We improved its styling with a new, sleek design tailored for the 90s.

The Saarland Kosmos ES-16. We didn’t made it different, we just made it even better.
