Damn, one just could not separate Kai and his Mephisto. It surely wasnāt for a lack of trying. I wasnāt expecting to win, because my car was clinically insane, but Iām glad I built something Kai had fun driving. With more time it may have been more refined, but time is just something I donāt have a surplus of these days.
Congrats to Der Bayer and major thanks to @strop for putting this together and writing the awesome reviews. I use you as a benchmark for my own review writing and youāve managed to raise the bar (again).
Revera is such a dark horse, really. We know the cars are fast, and are great design pieces, but thereās just so little of them, also not a lot of info or actual activity from the company. It adds to the mystery of the company, but not a lot to popularity.
From what Iāve heard so far, the omission of the R1 from the final results has made me plan for two possibilities: one in which the original result stands, and one where @strop is forced to overrule the initial verdict because the only car not to be mentioned at all in the final rankings turns out to be the real winner, leading to @asdren being the next round master instead of @Der_Bayer unless he passes up the opportunity.
Also, I kept this next bit of advice in mind when I submitted the K4, hence the use of forged internals in its engine:
A low redline in a city car thatāll rarely if ever use the upper rev range is not really an issue. A low redline in a car that is expected to be driven hard is supremely frustrating and overrides all the other numbers in the stats.
Sadly this is not an isolated instance. And after seeing this explanation from @asdren, Iām actually less sure of the R1 winning:
he had to write 22 lengthy reviews in 3 afternoons (I assume at least 45 min spend per review), and in the effort to wrap it up quickly, forgot one car out of the 22 in the summary
One thing is for certain: Deep crimson red is so lustrous I will consider using it as the exterior color for my next entrant in this contest.
Probably because the marketing department at Revera sucks and all the resources are allocated towards the engineering and design. Someday there might be a company thread. Maybe.
Itās more like that the round master was probably tired, because he had to write 22 lengthy reviews in 3 afternoons (I assume at least 45 min spend per review), and in the effort to wrap it up quickly, forgot one car out of the 22 in the summary. You donāt forget the winning car
Congratulations @Der_Bayer for your well deserved win; when I read @stropās write-up of your car I knew youād win or at worst come second!
@strop is my Automation sensei; my entrant was my way of honouring my master by showing him how much I had learnt
As awesome as it would be to replace Mephisto, it would be a travesty IMO for the student to ursurp the master by converting his test driver; without Mephisto there would not be Shelob by Leeroy so Mephisto will always, for me, be the better carā¦
Iām now very excited to see what @Der_Bayer will tempt us with; after all, heās the man behind BROBOT, the only real time racing simulator for Automation!
After all the lengths Strop went as a roundmaster, I donāt want to be roundmaster anymore, he set the bar so high!
Congratulations to Der_Bayer! Hereās the winnerās cake (totally not a lie)
Yeah, there should be a company threat about revera, we donāt know where are those cars from, how many are produced, as far as we know, Revera Automotive could be a facade of illegal or weird business
Congrats to @Der_Bayer I knew your design would do well the moment I saw it and I look forward to seeing what challenges the next round brings.
Big thanks to @strop for hosting I really enjoyed the whole write up and in my case, I appreciate the feedback since Iām still a novice when it comes to actually tuning my cars properly. I think I may have been too focused on reducing production numbers and engineering time to add anything fancy to the base engine.
See @koolkei I may know how to style a car but I still donāt really know what Iām doing when it comes to tuning them so it balances out. For Maesima though Iāll have to chalk this up to them sending in a preproduction test car or else this is some type of recall issue.
Ok couple of comments, Iām admitting officer today so itās all kind of crazy up in this shit atm:
@abg7 yeah nah dw I had my results all prepared so the omission from the summary was literally me forgetting to slot it in than me not considering the car. Youāll see why it doesnāt affect the standings now that Iāve amended the post.
@KLinardo@Madrias yes, I did say itās harder to replace Mephisto by a mile. As I think somebody astutely picked up, when replacing Mephisto, why not replace with another GG car? Youād have to beat all of those as well in both looks and performance to replace Mephisto. I didnāt specifically mention this because it wasnāt all that prejudicial, but the implication that there were many hoops to jump through was there.
@asdren yeah real sorry about that. I averaged 1 hour per review, I really did look at every aspect I said I would LOL. And I thought it would deter some entrants being so damn complicated
Wow, thatās a pleasant surprise, thank you all for a very interesting round and the strong competition! And thanks to strop for the insane amount of work going into this!
Of course Iāll be hosting next round, but due to the BRC closing the doors soon, I will only be able to start the next CSR round some time next week. But I think you can already look forward to a new and unique challenge! I think I have an ideaā¦
Next week huh? Thatād technically be a little long for the usual rules but Iām quite sure weād be happy to wait for this unique opportunity. All in favour?
After the mayhem of the previous round we all need to rest for a few days, but I have no problem with the next round commencing today or tomorrow.
I have learned a very important lesson from this challenge: never underestimate the requirements of the round master or let your ego get the better of you. And as for multi-user collaborations:
Thatās seldom been done, and I am hardly sure what the contest would feel like if there were any of them in the next roundā¦ I just want to wait for the objectives given by @Der_Bayer before designing my next entry.
I have decided that, after the results of the competition are announced, I will improve my car based on the feedback, for instance, the Cacend needs bigger brakes and a more imposing exterior, I will post screens if this is ok.
