The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

Yup

TO-rbo or not TO-rbo. That is the question.

Sorry

I’m comfortable playing the wild-card for the next couple rounds. It’s relaxing to build things that I know don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning.

I think somebody already beat you to the punch. Scroll up the thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok I got my pitch sorted. Calling it now and locking it in. Now to sort out the styling…

Here’s the same questions I asked in a PM.
Any help?

A grossly unsafe car will fail, however, so long as you don’t use basic safety, you’ll be fine

Nope, the body is just a canvas to get your aesthetic and engineering statement displayed upon

Both, but “Driftability” is based on your chassis tune, not just because it’s RWD, lol!

Introducing the DSD Tidal.

A small RWD coupe designed to re-live the golden days of the import JDM.
The tidal is styled around the 300ZX and the Toyota Supra. The lines of the car helped us to name the vehicle tidal as the body looks like rolling waves of the Ocean, for this reason we also chose to paint the car in “Ripcurl” blue metallic.

The Tidal is made from AHS steel and aluminium and utilizes a double wishbone front suspension with a multi-link rear. The three exhaust pipes hint at what lies under the bonnet but those exhuast tips are not just for show with the center tip exiting the exhaust gases from the electric cutouts when under heavy acceleration.

The engine is mounted Transversely however the car is RWD with what DSD is calling Front Drive Assist which sends a small amount of power (5%) to the front wheels when the vehicle detects understeer.

The engine is a first for DSD, displacing a total of 2186cc and with only 3 cylinders the engine is not only rev happy but also economical. 5 valve cylinder heads along with VVT and triple throttle bodies help to produce 205Hp/222Nm or 214Hp/227Nm with the removal of the air box (for off street uses only). Power is then run through the transfer case and into the 6sp manual gearbox and Eaton LSD. (please note that Front drive assist is not connected to the gearbox but the transfer case itself and as such is not controlled via the gearbox but from the onboard ECU)

we don’t skimp on the important things at DSD so the Tidal comes standard with 18" alloy wheels with 215/40R18 and 245/40R18 Soft sports tyres. Brakes are 350/295mm vented discs with twin piston fronts and single rears. An active wing along with wind tunnel and racetrack tuned Aero is just another nail in the coffin for the 86. Keeping the tyres on the tarmac is a simple set of progressive twin tube suspension with large passive swaybars. Finally inside we find 4 sporty seats with an industry standard HUD and GPS system.

$22000 before profits.

And for just a small amount extra ($28000) you can buy the cup car version which features the 3

the car being convertible or not. does it matter?

as a manufacturer of purist’s cars we do think the 86 is too much of a compromise. it looks like a light sport car but its 2l engine simply doesn’t cut it and its drivers even forget about the fact it actually has back seats. so we decided to make its successor a true track/sport car that can still be used in daily life rather than making another car that doesnt really do neither of the two very well. at first, with our experience in building I6 engines, we thought we can easily fit a more appropriate engine into the budget. so we had to create a whole new car anyway. the design of the car is supposed to let everyone know that this car means serious business. at the same time, the body shape allows for a near to perfect weight distribution while leaving more space for a total of 4 passengers than the current 86 does. this version comes with industry standard interior equiqment and safety features. however, you could easily use this platform and engine to create a premium, luxury, or a super car. we tried to incoporate design features of the 2000 GT and the 86 into this totally reshaped car. while the interior equipment of this car is plain standard for an entry model, we want to use this opportunity to propose our volcano red for the 1st Edition model.

@HighOctaneLove will you judge our cars on how well they will fit into the Toyota lineup when they replace the GT86? I’m getting a bit nervous because of cars like Stensen’s now  mine is nothing like his

That’s fast… Gotta hope my 6 grand cheaper price tag can off set 20 seconds on the ring time.

How much time do we have left to keep building still?

Hope that helps…

This will be a small factor, but don’t over-think things too much, I have a lot of factors, objective AND subjective, that will make up my final decision!

Is one of them: Is it blue?

@HighOctaneLove would a convertible be a plus point?

I would actively encourage HOL not to answer this.

We do need to ask ourselves: are we just asking for the answer to be handed to us on a platter? :joy:

also just think about it for a minute. What’s the FT86 supposed to be? I don’t think a convertible was supposed to be one of those. Convertibles lose chassis integrity and compensate with more mass. The 2000GT was a berlinetta shape coupe, that shape gets completely ruined by making it convertible. I almost didn’t want to say this because I think it’d be hilarious bringing a convertible to a sports car fight only to realise you added extra wank, but I can’t help it. Then again if you’re thinking about doing it like MX-5, and you think you can pull it off, that would be something amazing.
