Are you using Eco carburettors because they help a lot with economy and if your using a I6 you can have 3 and that makes a big difference in speed.
I find 3 carbs of any kind ruins the reliability and the costs for maybe a 10% in peak Power in 1949. I personally wouldnāt advise it (why am I giving advice lol). Early Tech seems to hit diminishing returns rather rapidly.
Peopleās commuter? If the general fuel economy rating is fulfilling the requirement, then it should be good.
But that a cheaper car from the late 40ās may not be able to reach 120 km/h at all is a thing I have bluntly overlooked. Even though I intended to let the commuter class be less reliant on these high speed stats and instead let them have the practical advantage in reliability and price.
Would it be alright to you guys if I instead account the fuel economy at 70 and 90 km/h for the commuters? The continentals remain to be rated at the top two speeds.
Should be alright. That will probably also actually hand an advantage to those commuters that can get to 120km/h but thatāll be offset by costs (presumably, unless youāre doing something very wrong!)
I wouldnāt be alright since I actually cared for top speed quite bit, are we allowed to revise?
The SiTh City Club is limited to 70mph.
The Moggy Minor (comparable late 40s commuter people car) had a top speed of 63mph.
Off topic I think Iām handicapping myself in these challenges by looking at the real world examples, of the period, and making cars to similar specs.
There are rounds in which the challenge requires faithful interpretation of real world examples. But this isnāt necessarily one of them, it smacks more of a stat balancing round.
Clear to revise! Itās only fair since I have further clarified little details of the challenge since I first conceived it.
Ohh also, Iām just going to mention that one of the submitted cars has an error that would disqualify it for the desired category and would put it into the continental class, since itās using building methods unsuited for mass production. The other is a very minor and thus tolerable digression in displacement.
One may notice my humble self exercising in refined use of language. Yet Iām not certain in its correctness
i4. twin eco carb already. 55hp. just barely gets 10L/100km
then again iām not going in to win
but if the speed criteria is changed from 90 &120 to 70&90 iād be so relieved.
and also the fact thereās barely any highway that are up to the āmodern standardā of highwayā¦
most people still travel from city to other city while going through other cityā¦ afaik.
With top speed as not important, itās hard to get good drivability AND good mileage out of the minivan.
Iām going to revise from ground-up and make another wild-card Peopleās Commuter, this time I donāt think people will think the same way as me.
But top speed will still be important with people commuters right? Only the economy check speeds are lowerā¦ Because my pc can do more than 100mphā¦ and I want that to count
It seems like top speed will be rated but wonāt be as important as in the continental class
The Versal Comet 6:
After the War Versal Motors France decided to rebuild their automotive business up again after destroying their factory to avoid helping the German forces. They present the Comet, a premium four door car with an AM radio and a strong 6 cylinder engine.Designed to transport people across the continent. Also available in other colours such as sable blanc and vert mousse.
@Mythrin i like the blue color. is the grill bmw based ?
BTW why no one used this body
a car looks badass in black. like something gestapo, kgb and other secret services would use
This is the 1949 Sinistra Nocturne, a simple and functional small car with a lot of features the public might actually want.
holy moly. those headlights would blind everyone <3
It seems like too many people are in the Peopleās Commuter category, will sure be cut throat
in case you guys need late 1940ās US car styling refrence, LA Noire to the rescue
personally, i think the fuel requirement is bit too harsh since both category require same fuel millage
The intent is to allow the driver to see any road hazards ahead. Itās not stylish to be off the side of the road with a smashed radiator.
Mine started out originally to be the other one, the continental commuter, butā¦ I couldnāt make it do what I wanted efficiently and reliably enough. So I shrunk the engine and realized it fit just fine in the other category.
Wasnāt about to spend 3 days sitting there trying 5 more cars before giving up and releasing something I couldnāt stand looking at, so I figured, this one looks good, and I can make it function as a cheap-ish car.
Exactly what killed my plan to use Continental Commuter. I couldnāt make something nice, expensive, and luxurious with a properly-sized engine (I was aiming for a 3-liter I6 originally), but between reliability (easily fixed) and fuel economy (not so easily fixed), I was forced to give up that plan.
Sure, the extra octane of the Super Leaded against Regular Leaded allowed a little bit more to be done, but when Iād already had to downsize the engine twice, it was time to change from the large car to the small car, redo the styling, and go for the cheap one.
