The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

this is taking 2 weeks, by now it should have been csr 33
@4LGE
just declare a winner and we all shall be happy

its don’t care who wins let’s get the wheel rolling

if i ever win i’ll run it like this. you have 5 days to make an entry , so i would have 2 days to make reviews and see who’s winner

@strop maybe can we make a new rule that a CSR round can only last a week or week and half

  1. No. Not everyome will
  2. No. 7days for entry time exists for a reason.
  3. I’m 99% sure that you’re underestimating the amount of work going into REVIEWS rather than giving single blurb line.
  4. If everyone really followed the 1 week only rule we should at least be on CSR 40 not 33

We discussed this a while back, particularly when we were suffering consecutive rounds that kept getting delayed indefinitely. As mentioned before, since things are still chugging along and 4LGE still has the community’s good faith given the output thus far, there’s no need to do anything unless a majority want us to move on. I know that’s not to the letter of our ‘strict 72 hour limit with 48 hours to respond to me sending them a please explain’, but since it’s a community run event we can go with however flexible the community is.

Since you’re the only one (or two) who’s thus far called for things to hurry up and we’ve evidence that 4LGE is still around and ready to finish the round, we can carry on as we have for now.

Though I should remind any prospective host, please don’t bite off more than you can chew. Almost everybody bites off more than they can chew, myself included :joy:

Finally:

This is quite permissible. Shorter rounds will probably mean less entries depending on how attractive the premise is, and you’re also allowed to take less than the allowed time to write reviews, if you’re able to write it that fast.

Putting the deadline on a Friday would’ve provided an additional day, sure.
My problem was that I made the plot possibly too deep and the mechanics a bit intricate for a simple CSR round, and then the weekend ran out too soon and I was stuck writing in the little spare time I have inside the working week.
So, even one additonal day might’ve not been enough.
Yes, @strop guessed right that I bit a bit more than I could chew with this one, at least timeframe-wise

Just to be clear, the issue here isn’t with quality or effort. There have been previous rounds with more entries and even more interesting reviews that didn’t need a further 10 days to get done.
There’s a reason for that, a simple one, people prepared, did their work before the deadline, wrote the reviews, at least the introductory ones, as soon as the cars arrived. Having to stay up until 4 am writing them is further proof that preparations weren’t made, as strop said, one can only bite more than one can chew, by preparing to chew more.

unless you’re like me and instead of writing the reviews you spend your entire week making excel spreadsheets and formatting the graphs :joy:

Or me, or us. Me and rk38. Which ended up making an open article for every car.

Admittedly, I did lack preparation, a lot. This challenge was not something I had already in the workings and carefully prepared and planned. Neither did I write the reviews as soon I received the cars, which I really should’ve done. Just some more things to think about if I or any other host new to this gets to host a round or their own challenge. Making something its own challenge possibly would’ve given a more flexible time frame.
Yet, I see quite some more or less little challenges just die because they lack participation, possibly because there is a lack of a reward that is more than a review and a winner. I tend to think that the CSR has become a platform to host more or less little challenges, but since the grand reward here is to host the next round, it is attracting anyone who might want to host such challenges, thus it has become a quasi-monopoly for it. However, The CSR is great, and that’s the reason it pretty much dominates this section here!

You are spot-on regarding your predicament. Consider, for example, what happened when I hosted CSR26: I wrote the reviews for each car as soon as I received them, and edited each review prior to posting. Given that you were not entirely prepared to host this round, it was inevitable that we would face a long wait for the reviews.

i think the strategy. write the review as soon as you get the entry would be a good strategy to work with.
imagine all entries are food. and imagine you have to eat all the food at once, that would hurt
so you eat food in a time span of 7 days
so trying to eat food for 7 days in one day is not a good combo

if you don’t know who to pick you could use random numbers.
assign numbers to everyone and lucky one wins

NOPE, though I at least wanted to nominate the top for each category before applying the lottery option, I had that stupid idea once, when I’ve given the proposal to move the rest of the reviews into a separate thread. Seriously, don’t push it.

i dont push it, i just give suggestions.

I like to think that this challenge attracts more people has more to do with the CSR premise, which is to put yourself on the mind of a buyer of some kind, so the challenges end up being more sensible, more tangible. They are also higher quality usually, because the person has first to win a challenge, which instantly makes them more familiar with the game, instead of some people who cough cncharger cough simply make random challenges without thinking or a proper rule set. Not only that, but also, everyone is guaranteed to have a proper review, with a proper explanation on why their car didn’t win. And, finally, it also allows for a lot of subjectivity, as implied on the car buying experience.

i’ll say that @4LGE has quite the task for himself. but, he’s shown he’s not a flake and is doing them properly, so let’s give him some sort of chance before we go full lottery

What few months ago we had a great debate and even a poll if I recall and we decided all will try our best to keep in schedule. For the second time in a row it again shows that many people can’t keep up with IRL stuff+tempo+30andsomething cars. I can honestly say if I would win, I’m not sure I could succeed.
So why don’t we just say, OK if there are 30+ entries, one week for entries, another for reviews and give it a strict deadline?

I think we can all take a deep breath and relax. I myself ran behind schedule with my CSR round, and frankly having people being impatient while you’re trying to push through headache-inducing writer’s block doesn’t help. This is supposed to be fun and some of us are taking it way too seriously, to the point of sounding rude and ungrateful, even if that’s not the intent. I’m really enjoying the current reviews and I’m confident the roundmaster hasn’t abandoned us.

I’ve just treated myself to both videos playing at the same time while Ennio Morricone plays in the background.

Well, it’s been three days without an update. I don’t like being the asshole, but at this point, as much as I’d love to see these reviews, I’m not going to wait another month at this rate to get them.

I’d like to let the current round end the way it should, and thereby I’m thinking that if we could get the top three cars announced, and we get the winner chosen, it’d be better for everyone involved.

We, as a community, gave you extra time. We didn’t get extra results, and thereby my vote is to finalize this round and begin the next one.

I know, reviews are a hard thing to do, but most of us review as the cars arrive, especially with the fact that CSR is this popular. This had promise as a challenge, but unfortunately, it’s taken too long to get results. We had a vote a while back on this being a recurring problem and it’s happened again, with CSR completely stalled because of either a lack of advanced planning, or someone giving up halfway.
