The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

can’t say i didn’t try it. but 14mpg are even more stupid of a number :joy:

here it was. it’s just that, for that kind of economy i had to run <30 cam profile, and with that kind of cam profile you can’t really take full advantage of the turbo. so much extra weight, more fuel, and only 80hp.

also american. 4 speed auto with overdrive :joy:

May the best V8 win(everyone and thier mom entered i6s it seems)

I did a V6, but yes, overwhelming number of I6Ts in here…

Mine is a I4 :stuck_out_tongue:

Twin-turbo V6 here.

As big V8 as I could fit. In the back of a minivan. TURBOCHARGED :smile:

PS @AirJordan Could you make a simple statistic about used cylinder layouts, aspiration and driven wheels please? That could be interesting.

I used a normally-aspirated straight-six for the sake of response and weight distribution - adding more cylinders would have left too little engineering time for other stuff like a premium interior.

I could, I could…but will I? I’m falling behind on reviews (surprise motherf***er) so not sure.

so. any update? are the reviews coming today? or at least part of it?

CSR41 Gimme that sporty wagon

Do not expect good reading. Sorry about that. If there are many many mistakes…my keyboard is dying. I had no idea that can even happen bu letter o is very weak and so on…

I was barley writing about interiors because 90% are premium with 0 quality. Shame not even one sport. Maybe my rules were t suggestive to play it safe, because cars were very very similar. My mistake.
On the other hand a lot on great engineering, I haven’t decided for top spot because well fuck it’s gonna be hard.

@Rhyder

Is it violet? Bule? Nope, definetly violet.
Lovely engine. It is a bit big for V6 at 4.3L but great torque curve (394 at 3800 pulls like a turbodisel from the future). Not that economic but I can easily cruse at low rpms so that would be ok. Bad stuff? It has 185 tyres at the front… what the hell? Sporty wagon with more under-steer than Audi. No smile on twisty road, no chance of buying this. Looks doesn’t help either.

@DonCornalidie

Mmmm loks positivley agressive. Even a bit futuristic (that’s a minus, futuristuic cars tend to age quicker-what an irony).
I dislike the engine. On paper, 4.5L V8 with low boost turbos sound perfect… reality? Weird torque band produced by 326kg sitting on front axle. That can not be good. Well its not that bad. Not sure why front wheels are again narrower even tho it has awd. Tyres are crap.
Aft: 1:52:94

@Connan

Racing green jajaja looks mean jajaja don’t like back nonono…
RWD with inline aluminium 6. Nodding. Engine is puurrrfect apart from being a bit to quiet. Even service will be cheap. Sweet…mother of god why oh why that gearing is so long and wide and that’s what she said? With such an engine I would want to go waaaap waaap waaaaap pap pap pap waaaap and not waaaaaaaaaaaaaaap wwaaaaaaaaa… at least my wallet is k with that. Brakes could use some extra bite when the wagon becomes family bus.
Maybe the best sport-comfort setup.
Aft: 1:49:36

@Rk38

Yes pelase. Looks awesome. Amazing.
Engine is fine to, V6 with nice torque, economy and power curves. It is however expensive to service (but cheap to buy so hey what the hell). Interesting choice of slim tyres but sticky compound… What is with the brakes? when braking hard, ABS comes on very fast but stopping distance is not that great… Yup, those front calipers are way to weak and rear to strong. Bad/ weird brakes are a deal barker to me. Or are they? because it looks soo right.
Aft: 1:50:28

@HighOctaneLove

if I would really want everyone to know don’t drive just a normal wagon. Skirts, wings, huge tubes… come on :wink:
2.5 turbo I4 feels like a race detune. Shame it so quiet and expensive to run. Handling? Mmmmmm that’s how you take them kids sideways to school. Great car…but is this bang worth my buck?
Aft: 1:44:61

@Leedar

Lets be quick and clear. This is a great car. Looks subtle, is very comfortable, reasonably quick, will not cost me fortune to feed or buy and has respectable amount of space. BUT… it’s the car for my wife (or sth). Why you cry? Because engine tune if for leisure driving and tyres are meant to go slow. Well to slow. So almost there…but no.
Aft: 2:03:67

@TheElt

Amm…ammm… yeah maybe in the dark… Inline 6 has a nice tune, very nice and usable power band at the top and decent economy when cursing. Braes could use a bit more punch for the times the wagon is packed but nothing drastic. It’s a god car. Just ugly. And with 0.00 camber I’m gonna destroy tyre outsides when first weekend comes.
Aft: 1:56.92

@Dragawn

Awwww shyeeet. You have seen it’s engine graph so no need for me to droll over that. Puuurrfect. Gearing could be shorter for more enjoyment but what the hell if the chassis is that good and economy above average. Sweet speakers and sporty looks just add to the bill.
Aft: 1:44:10

@Leo9613

This is one HELL of a quality product. The sound and perfect tuning on N/A I6 (maybe contact Leo for some classes) makes me want to stop looking at other cars. And than the smoothness of shifts…oh and that wide butt…yes yes it is not that nice to my wallet but I can’t hear you over that sound system…

@Nommade0013

Nice turbo 4 with internal s expensive that I must pray to god nothing goes ever wrong. Overkill doesn’t stop there: awd with lsd and wider rears… It would need much more than 255hp to justify that. It is a god and balanced car but nothing more.
Aft: 1:47.18

@oppositelock

380+ NM from 2200RPM to…well for ever. That IS nice. This car is SO similar to Helios that maybe this companies share some engineers or parts or wifes… I believe fuel and service-wise, it’s one of the cheapest cars here. Oh and it looks like a Ferrari killer. Like.
Aft: 1:44.28

@thecarlover

It looks great, colour is special. Sadly it’s engine is not in the same league as some of the best (hint up) nor is the comfort. Standard upholstery? Pass. Loads of space do not justify high weight, consumption and costs.
¸Aft: 1:54.46

@LafingHyena

Is this also a boat?
Veeeee 8 wohoo. It sound so delicious I have a song for that engine: “What does the wallet says? dig gi dig dig no no no no ding digi no no no…”. Good brakes and comfort but gears longer than monday. Also do not be cheap on safety when family is involved.
Aft: 1:47.47

@HwlerAutmtive

I bet that wing is aftermarket…
Wait is this round the “who gets the longest torque band”? Because starting at 1990rpm, this is the winner. It does not produce any power tho, 218 is just sportish IRL in Europe but NOTHING in Automation! Same story with their setup - the least sporty car here. Very comfortable and safe but no smiles per gallon.
Aft: 2:07.65

@JohnWaldock

Everythnik regarding gearbox is above average, same as comfrt and economy. Brakes are below average. Come on, I said I like sporty fast driving… Everything else about this car is average. And why is enige tuned to RON91?
*why is this car so fast around AF is beyond me. Magic :slight_smile:
Aft: 1:41.38

@Maridas

Take a lok Mitsubishi, this is what you should use name Space star for. a) because if has busload f space and b) it’s rear looks like it came from outer space. Interesting choice of boosted daoch engine with nice torque and flat power curve. Problem lies in this car no being sporty by a mile.
Aft: 1:51.02

@NormanVauxhall

Would bang 10/10. Smooth but aggressive on the outside and same on the go. Because it’s turbo6 is a bit bigger, lower revs are not so much of a problem. Huge problem are faces of sportcar owners when you smoke’em at every stoplight. Shame they put hard rubber on from the factory but since it’s very cheap to buy and run…well we’ll see.
Aft: 1:50.87

@TR8R

One big heavy V8 in the nose. That is the story os grey machine. With drive train like this, I can really cruse with decent consutmption or floor that beats an listen to glory or burning dinosaurs. However there is ne mayor flaw. It has automatic locker diffs. Try parking with this things…
Aft: 1:43.29

@USDMFTW

This looks like future tuners car.
Engine is a peach. Alu V8 with a lot of usable power and a lot of expensive parts. Gearing is too eco friendly and fully clad floor means my mechanic will kill me every year. 265 tires? Aint no body got money for that. I wish safety would be as futuristic as active dampers and that face.
Aft: 1:51,90

@Yurimacs

Lets just say if Zast is parked face first and I’m approaching it from behind, darkness is my friend. Very interesting engine tune. It is turbo but it acts like VTEC yo and power curve is flat like your girlfriend. If she’s flat that is. Rear biased awd is a bit ruined my narrow front rubber. Maybe the nicest interior of them all.
Aft: 1:45,15

@abg7

This car is so violet I’m gonna dieeee.
Not much t say abut it’s hart. It’s average and expensive. Love the safety features, cacoon is a good word when transporting one’s family. Handling is very fun more so maybe even too much fun when on Autobhan. I don’t like to be overtaken by rear wheels at high speeds.
*Great time for a rwd car!
Aft: 1:41.42

@gridghost

An experiance.
Lag lag lag booooost, loud wooosh, clutch, bang, loud wooosh… :smiley: handling is super fun and wagon stays stable even at higher speeds. Quality is great, comfort not so much. Look if it were the search for character and smile on my face than this is it. Because I have to fuel this toy, pay for service and do holiday drives…hmmm…
*Time speaks for itself. Balance is the key.

@koolkei

I have been warned about his sedan.
Carburetors and pushrods??? No way… O M G the symphony. This is not a review. Koolkei I’m laughing my ass of, you mad genius. 4 speed auto and I said fun?!? 1 gear 115kph => priceless. This is actually a good car. How can it not be if car moves violently when I touch the gas in neutral. EPIC.
Afk: 1:54.16

@spaceorion

Whoa that’s long is what she said (again?!?).
Popup headlights jajajaja love them. For real, I like the darty looks. Engine, not so much. Its unreliable and uninspiring. Someone forgot to put brakes on that yacht. 44m to stop? Nope. Everything else quite normal, premiumish.
Afk: 1:59,43

@stoppingpower

Shine bright like a diamont…
Nothing…nothing…still waiting…Powee gone. Yeah this guys did not put this engine on the dyno but rather just bolt on the turno and hope for the best. Sunshine here is the lightest car so kinda gets off with only 185 rubber. It is dirty cheap to buy, service and listen music.
*Tyre/kg ratio wins the track.
Aft: 1:40,08

@szafirowy01

Sweet van or how the green house can be awesome.
Lovely V8 inside, shame it’s a tubo because tune is not the best. 175mm front 245 rear? Something is not right. I feel sorry for all the weird things, because this van is so damn cool, if engine and setup would be fin it would be strong contender. Cool af. Sub zero award.
Aft: 2:48.13

@Mikonp7

Old trim, heart is too weak. Setup is good, safe, average. In my opinion looks are more than correct for sporty wagon.

What kind of drugs are you on when you were typing this? :laughing:

In seriousness,some of the reviews for some cars lack a little detail (at least it helps that you posted a pic with general stats to have some basis of comparison).If you added more consistency to your writings,I would have been fine with the weird spelling errors.

Ahh, I believe that’s the typework of a man with too much work and way too little time :joy:

Enjoyed the reviews, especially one quote: “gears longer than mondays”, that one gave me a good chuckle.

I thought that my car was light for a 5 seater…seems like I thought wrong :sweat_smile:

Wow. I am suprised that my car (even when it was too old ,ups) was this fast around the track. I mean my engine is detuned as fuck. But this happens i guess when you put a Wagonbody on a Racecar :smile:

well… wait for your turn to host. you’ll know the pressure then.

anyway, i didn’t notice that my car could pull to 65mph in 1st gear. ALL THE TORQUE!

It’s nice to hear that my wagon has had nothing but praise written about it… Except for its oversteering tendencies! And that lap time… Not much in this round is faster around the Airfield Track, so my decision to throw the kitchen sink at my entry (i.e. use as much of the allowed budget and combined engineering time as possible might just pay off! And I can forgive you for your broken English - your reviews for this round have all hit the spot!

It seemed that adding even one quality point each to the interior and entertainment system would be out of the question for me this round, given the tight aggregate engineering time limit, but somehow I managed to do it. I am now increasingly optimistic about reaching the top 5 for this round…

now, my car was so quick, because lightness, good tyres and a capable motor. no magic here, baby.
