The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

PM me the details and I’ll adjust them myself. I’ll assume default position for whatever’s not mentioned but please do tell me the factory sizes, those don’t always work.

EDIT: Flowcharts and graphics updated. Rules are here: The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven and the round is now active!

I’m glad I passed the ball on this one, what a wonderful challenge! Good luck to all the participants!

Simply trying to build a competitive replacement for either car will be a nightmare… It is possible, though. Whatever you build, keep the flowchart in mind!

I have something coming along. 4.5L/100km 0-100 6.8 970kg’s and V8 n/a

Make sure it’s sexy!

Let’s face it, the styling of your last round entry was a little… wide of the mark :stuck_out_tongue:

let’s just say i am throwing out the normal DSD/ANZ rule book but a question is simplicity pretty, We normally would look at function over form and low fuel cost 3 valve v8’s however researching G.G (which has been an on going exercise for many months) and we think a modern concept car approach is in order. While originally wanting to power this unit with a hybrid electric/petrol 879cc v8 with 15hp electric motors however weight was an issue so we a tentatively playing with a straight 6 “GASP” or a scaled down version of our 600ci 4 valve v8 with economy and flat torque in mind. As far as the shell of the car well lets just say we have employed a certain coach builder formally of Alfacough…cough…cough…ah excuse me a car builder from Inala? At least that’s what my dossier here says…Um…hmmm Ok that’s not so good. But we are confident

Answered for everybody’s benefit:

Maybe. But if it’s insipid simplicity Kai won’t even see it.

So, we have to do the factory settings, or are we doing estimated? Have to ask because I’ve got an idea in mind that’s almost done.

Do the factory settings and PM to me so I can enter them manually. My results should match the market tab screenshot you’ll provide on the thread as per usual rules.

#2017 Cadence C-Sport R

Cadence Engineering Briefing Room, Salt Lake City, Utah, 0800hrs, [Undisclosed date], 2017.

-Cadence CEO Rori O’Maley calls a meeting with Head of Design, Kasey Green and Head of Sales, Corbin Lake. Scene starts with Rori behind her desk, and Kasey and Corbin seated infront-

Rori O’Maley: “So, I heard GG is looking for a car for their test driver”

Kasey Green: “Yep. I think take a Dormier, top of the line, super, you get the deal, Rori.”

Corbin Lake: “Nah. Everyone will go that way, they’ll try and out Gryphon Gear Gryphon Gear, if that makes sense to yah, Kase. I’m thinking something smaller, more liveable.”

RO: “So, Something from the Garrix Line-up?”

CL: “I’m more thinking C-Sport.”

KG: “You really think their test driver, AND AMWEC Champion driver would want a C-Sport over a Dormier? Corbin, have you lost your mind?”

CL: “Why not? I mean, he needs something to live in when he isn’t driving an insanity.”

-Pause-

RO: “R.”

CL: “Exactly. Not yet released to the public, It’s perfect. If we have someone from GG driving a Cadence, that’ll be a MASSIVE boost to sales.”

KG: “Corbin, you’re mad. They’ll never take anything less than 800hp. We’re barely pushing over 400!”

RO: “Kase, we have over 420hp, and the C-Sport R is liveable. Doubt anyone else will bring something that smart.”

CL: “She’s a looker too. I’ll contact someone at GG and send a specialized R over to Australia as soon as possible.”

KG: “This better work out, Corbin, or I’ll kick your ass so hard…”

-Fade to Dial tone, and black as KG and CL leave the room-

-The C-Sport R appears on the screen-

So, you’re looking for a car that’s a good daily driver, happens to be fun to drive, and yet doesn’t look like just another blob rolling down the road? You’re looking for something that’s good on gas, and yet manages to be fun going around a couple corners once in a while? Looks like you’re looking for something a bit more Primal.

The Storm Primal GT is not your typical American car. You won’t find a V8 in this car. Instead, you get a 2.9 liter DOHC straight six with a turbocharger and water-to-air intercooling. It’s not front or rear wheel drive, it’s all wheel drive, providing better grip for a faster launch. A six-speed manual gives you total control over your car.

We’ve fitted a high-quality interior into this little monster, complete with heads-up display so you can keep your eyes on the road. And if you feel so inclined…

… Go ahead, drop the top. We built a hard-top convertible. Oh, and don’t worry, the technology from a hyper car has made it here, as that top can be deployed, even at top speed.

We’ve fitted medium-compound street tires on the 17 inch alloy rims. 225mm up front, 235 out back, giving a light understeer to the car. From testing, we know matching the tires will make the car more sporty, but a little harder to drive.

The engine is constructed from AlSi, with a billet crank, titanium connecting rods, and lightweight forged pistons. It’s built to take abuse. Our factory turbocharger is set up for fuel efficiency, but there’s enough room to change it out and make more than our factory 303 horsepower. It’s spinning about as fast as we dare, but I’m sure some high-quality aftermarket parts would have it spinning faster still.

There’s a wide variety of paint colors available, including the ability to custom-order a color for a small fee.

So, how much does a sporty, drivable hard-top convertible luxury coupe cost you?

A touch less than $35,000. Expensive, yes, but you’re getting a lot of car for the money, with an engine built to be tuned, a six-speed stick, AWD, and a luxury interior designed to make driving comfortable and fun.

yup. lot’s of people are going the same route that i considered, ‘cheap’ daily sportster.

i need to make something different.

This round is just like playing game theory. Except the main difficulty is that the less confident you are with your design skills, the more you’ll be inclined to try to outgame everybody else.

I would encourage everybody to, if they’re inclined, take your time. I don’t just submit close to last in a contest because I’m busy. It just takes me days or even weeks to do inspiration justice. Of course if it all comes tumbling out in a big rush I won’t stop you, but don’t rush yourself and think ‘I could have done it better’ after you submit.

Note: I have to cram some closed beta testing so I won’t be able to scrutinise entries for about 48 hours.

oh no. i never thought of “i could’ve done that better”. i just think “why the fuck did i do that”?

@strop Yep, it’s my depreciation calculator you’re probably thinking of :stuck_out_tongue:
But, please feel free to develop your own, mine needs improving anyway.

Thanks! If enough people submit a restomod/classic and the conditions for having to take budget and costs into account are met, I’ll go dig it up and rejig it.

just edit the post from before please.

It’s simple, but I kinda like it. I can see, though, why we disagree on design philosophy.

I’m just waiting to see at what point it starts differentiating itself from a Hyundai Elantra :joy:
