Ah. Probably the VM Motori unit for the European market then. I thought only the XJ got them. Have never seen a diesel ZJ.

Cheerokees had diesel engines from Renault (2.1 Turbo Diesel) first then after the transfer to chrysler they used VM motori’s engine (2.5 Turbo Diesel) in the european market. I have even saw 5 cylinders 3.1 liters turbo diesel!
Did the ZJ ever have a 4cyl? I can only find evidence of the XJ…damn you Google!!

Ah nice I guessed it, not gonna lie it was tough since I first started researching 80s/90s coupes and sedans since that bumper didnt give me SUV vibes at all, but then I stumbled upon a picture of a similar jeep and it struck me
