I think I’ve been on the right track for quite a long time, and that this car is literally unsearchable without knowing its exact name, which I do not know 
I’ve just checked, and it comes up on Google without searching for its exact name
Hint #10:
This design study (and one of the large family cars produced in a former Eastern Bloc country) is named after a card suit.
Trabant Caro? I could find some search results with that name…
Edit: Found a very pixelated version of the exact picture you used. The site is in German and Google translate translates the name to ‘Caro Limo’

I firmly believe you took this photo yourself in a secret vault under Zwickau So I was on the right track with it being some sort of a Trabant, yet no matter how I tried to search for Trabant prototypes, I couldn’t find this one.

Reading about it, it seems to be a fun little car, Pininfarina body, Porsche tuned chassis, 1.8T Mitsubishi paired to a 5 or 6 speed manual depending on the year.
