True or False: Forum game

TNP doesn’t car about global warming simply because it is ruining the car industry

False. IMO safety rules kill the car industry more. And stricter emissions regulations results in better cars if they weren’t so lazy like the 70s.

TNP doesn’t hate the Hennesey Venom.

False, if the car industry ruins the world first that’s kind of a stupid argument. As much as I like this game, seeking more energy efficient and sustainable fuels other than petrochemical fuel would be a good thing.

oops I got sniped.

True. I don’t hate it. Thinking that it shouldn’t be considered more than it is and finding claims that this makes Henessey a legit OEM rather dubious, and also being mindful of the several extremely questionable practices Henessey allegedly engages in, doesn’t equate to hating the Venom. And I have to say I am genuinely curious as to whether the Typhoon will live up to its claims.

Searle’s Chinese Box argument is a thought experiment about the viability of “strong A.I.”, i.e. AI that possesses human power of cognition and synthesis. At its essence it is also affected by our struggle to define what is “true,” “verifiable” knowledge. Basically, it’s an analogy for a computer running on scripts: if you sat an English speaking person in a room with no contextual knowledge of the outside world, gave them a big cheat sheet on how to identify, parse and respond to inputs written in Chinese, such that using this cheat sheet that person would then be able to pass for an adequate Chinese speaker, even if that person didn’t actually have a clue what he was saying.

The question is, is this even a good analogy? Is the person the appropriate agent to represent our attempt at A.I.? Even if the person doesn’t ‘understand’ Chinese, does the system as a whole understand it? What does it mean to understand Chinese?

On a related note, TNP thinks that we can create trustworthy, fully autonomous self-driving cars.

Anything’s better than 90% of the shitty drivers I tend to see on a daily basis.

TNP wishes more phone companies would disable their phones at speeds exceeding 2 MPH.

Err, not quite true. I see how that works when operating a vehicle, but I walk faster than 2mph and frequently have to use my phone while walking (part of the job). Also what if I’ve turned location tracking off? Will that function, which I assume is tied to GPS, still work?

I’d accept the measure in principle if those things be ironed out, and I assume that it would be to disable screen input thereby preventing you from texting or attempting to catch Pokemon while driving, but not disabling you from using your phone as a GPS. Plus a clause that, like how the phone can operate even when still locked, to call the national emergency hotline or 112 (International standard emergency number), which should be easy enough.

TNP finds it difficult to admit when they’re wrong.

Tralse. Depends on whether I’m wrong, or someone thinks I’m wrong.

As for the phones thing, I picked 2 MPH as a rough number. That could be just about any speed that would eliminate screen use when driving. As you’d said, allowing GPS use for traffic navigation would be an essential need, as well as, obviously, a way to access emergency numbers on the move.

I was more referring to the idea of blocking the general majority of apps, locking down email and texting functions. Plus, even with location tracking off, I’m sure the accelerometer would make for a half-decent backup.

TNP desperately needs more caffeine right now.

True if by killed you mean completely disable a computer due to a virus.

TNP wants to see a dogfight between the Cien, GT90 and ME 412.

ME412 and the CIEN, sure. I have heard that the GT90 isn’t good. Either way, we couldn’t swap it out for the new GT40 because the CIEN would munch that. But, sure, I’d watch the shit out of that.

TNP is a Honda hater

False. Love Hondas except EG6s and EK9s. Well I don’t like their newer cars at all but that’s a different case.

TNP feels strongly about something irrelevant.

True.

TNP uses Git

Not really.

TNP has ever jailborked an iOS device

TNP didn’t use said jailbreak for piracy

TNP knows Lime Spiders

False. I didn’t even know Australia had a punk scene back in the time of original punk.

TNP knows no other punk than the punk of 1976 to 1980. None of the Green Day ‘punk’ stuff or, god forbid, Pop Punk!

False. Telecom Spark are one of the better ISPs.

TNP has a degree.
