Bins and Laptimes
Bins
Yagihara X220 @hjuugoo
(Bin reason: Trim year and Variant year set to 2010 instead of 2020)
The X220 has good service costs and safety, but it also has the worst comfort and drivability, mainly because of the terminal oversteer.
Airfield Lap Times
Lap times are very close this time, with the top 3 under 0,1s and the top 6 just over half a second.
But lap time isn’t everything, so even the cars at the bottom might still have a chance.
Interestingly, the Swanson is the only car running semislicks and 98 fuel. Seems like everyone else wanted to avoid the SVC penalties.
So, I was dq-ed too? I am quite sure that I sent you my car - or dementia maybe slowly kicks in on my side.
You posted an ad, but I never got the car
Crap! Well then - it´s not your fault, but mine. Was a bit busy lately and might have forgotten it despite thinking otherwise.
Eek. Well, we’ll see how this goes.
aw fuck me
Also, are you just looking at automation stats? Feels kinda weird… Because I think something like driveability you should be able to test and judge somewhat by driving a car in beam yourself. (Also kinda bugged by a bin due to something that, if not putting me at a disadvantage, doesn’t improve my chances… but rules are rules, I guess)
Very few Challenges will use beam for judging unless explicitly stated.
Automation stats are a more balanced and even affair over the board compared to subjective Beam testing.
Not everyone has access to beam so unless said otherwise, only automation stats are used. Wring year is a pretty common thing to bin for, it happens to the best of us.
Wow! So close!
Round 1
This are the cars that have big issues and/or weren’t good enough.
Hanekawa Mocha S 120 (83.5 points) @izak
- Lap time: 1:31.64
- 0-100 km/h: 6.53s
- 20m radius: 0.791G
- 200m radius: 0.770G
- Power: 198hp
- Weight: 1075kg
The Mocha is the slowest car and also the one with the lowest score. Acceleration is not that bad, but cornering is the worst of all cars by some margin. Other than performance, it has the lowest sportiness and reliability, and safety is pretty bad too, which is expected for a car this small. It’s not all bad though, it’s one of the cheapest entries and it has good comfort, along with the best drivability.
As for the design, I’m not a fan. It’s cute, but the front would look better with a plate to fill the empty bumper; and as cool as the tail lights are, they are too small and leave the rear too empty.
Roamer Art 3600N (104.4 points) @Mausil
- Lap time: 1:28.24
- 0-100 km/h: 5.93s
- 20m radius: 0.939G
- 200m radius: 0.912G
- Power: 260hp
- Weight: 1663kg
Where do I start with the design of this one. It doesn’t pull of well the two tone coloration, and the DeLorean looking metallic panels don’t help the case. The design itself isn’t great either: the scoop looks out of place, the massive rear bumper with a single tiny reversing light is almost comical, and it has a grill over the headlights for some reason?
On the engineering side, performance is unremarkable although it’s kinda slow. Sportiness is ok, while reliability and safety are pretty good. However it also has high SVC as well as terrible comfort, enviromental resistance and fuel economy (12.9L/100km, the worst of all cars). Considering that the Roamer uses the full budget, this stats are not enough.
Nessa Marz 1.6 RS (104.9 points) @z2bbgr
- Lap time: 1:22.70
- 0-100 km/h: 5.22s
- 20m radius: 0.995G
- 200m radius: 0.995G
- Power: 265hp
- Weight: 1309kg
Next we have the first car with a lap time in the 22s. The Nessa Marz is fast and agressive, it trully looks like a track car, although that rear wing is a bit too much. Other than that, the lower headlights are a bit weird but overall it looks nice.
Thanks to having four full seats and a rear hatch, the Marz is pretty practical, while performance, safety and drivability are also good. The main issue with this car are the service cost at $2110 as well as the low reliability. The latter comes from not using quality, it’s usually a good idea to save some budget to spend on better quality.
Kiyume KS 2000 (107.5 points) @machalel
- Lap time: 1:22.97
- 0-100 km/h: 5.26s
- 20m radius: 0.990G
- 200m radius: 0.936G
- Power: 306hp
- Weight: 1334kg
It’s not a bad looking car, but it’s nothing special either. It would probably look be better if both the headlights and the tail lights were further out
While performance is pretty good, the rest of the stats of the Kiyume are nothing special. With high service costs and purchase price, this car needs something more to stand out from its competition.
Lydiard 180CS (116.6 points) @the_aerobirb
- Lap time: 1:27.86
- 0-100 km/h: 5.36s
- 20m radius: 0.851G
- 200m radius: 0.821G
- Power: 177hp
- Weight: 838kg
With the best reliability and service costs of all cars, as well as good fuel economy, the Lydiard 180CS might seem like a good choice for just $23300. However, the medium tyres it uses to get those low service cost really hurt it’s performance. Acceleration isn’t bad, but cornering leaves a lot to be desired. Being so small it also struggles with safety, comfort and practicality; as well as being the hardest car to drive if we ignore the bins.
I wasn’t a fan of the design at first, but it’s grown on me over time. It’s looks cute and sporty at the same time, but a bit more detail would have been nice.
WHAAAAT omg I made it to round two! Some good lookin cars in there too, wow!
Sorry for taking so long with the reviews, but I’ve been too busy lately and didn’t have the motivation for it.
I have a lot of free time for the next days, so expect them to drop very soon.
Round 2
This cars that had smaller and fewer issues than the ones in the previous round, but they weren’t good enough for the finals.
Somboy Kitty XR22 (122.3 points) @Restomod
- Lap time: 1:27.81
- 0-100 km/h: 7.03s
- 20m radius: 1.03G
- 200m radius: 0.995G
- Power: 203hp
- Weight: 1332kg
While the Somboy is good at cornering, the slow acceleration means its laptime isn’t great. This hatchback fits five full seats inside, so it’s very practical, although it takes a hit in comfort for that same reason. It’s easy to drive too, but the rest of the stats are a bit mediocre.
The tailights don’t fit the rest of the car well, rounder and blobbier lights would look better on it. and I think the small intakes on the hood are unnecessary. Otherwise, it looks fine, I like the side vent and the round mirrors.
Nardo Halcon RS (123.3 points) @Koviico
- Lap time: 1:22.45
- 0-100 km/h: 5.32s
- 20m radius: 1.04G
- 200m radius: 0.970G
- Power: 320hp
- Weight: 1492kg
One of the best designs in the competition, this sporty sedan is a type of car that I wish was still around more. It looks fast (and it is) but it’s not too excesive. Only bad things I have to say is that some details are a bit rough if you take a closer look, and the tyres are really shiny.
The Nardo Halcon is almost tied for first in laptimes. The downforce from that rear wing is helped by the most powerful engine in the challenge to reach that impressive performance. It also seats five and is very safe, but unfortunately this is where the positives end. Sportiness is disapointing, as are SVC and fuel economy; comfort is straight up bad, both because of the five full seats and because of the standard/standard interior. The $25000 dollar price is asking too much for what it offers.
Sidenote
Exhaust flow is at 216%, I don’t know if that’s intentional or not, but I thought it was weird and wanted to mention it. You could easily get +20hp if you wanted.
Eroberung UR300 (127.9 points) @azkaalfafa
- Lap time: 1:22.94
- 0-100 km/h: 4.00s
- 20m radius: 1.03G
- 200m radius: 0.985G
- Power: 300hp
- Weight: 1624kg
This coupe is elegant and sporty at the same time, with slick lines and great looking headlights and (specially) tail lights. Only problem with the design is that it’s not that unique.
With the fastest acceleration and a good laptime, the Eroberung gets one of the highest scores in performance. It’s also safe, practical and easy to drive. Service costs are pretty good too, although the low fuel economy means running costs are not as good as they could be. Other than that, this car might have longevity issues, considering the low reliability and and enviromental resistance.
Shima Amelie TS (129.7 points) @ErenWithPizza
- Lap time: 1:25.21
- 0-100 km/h: 5.41s
- 20m radius: 1.03G
- 200m radius: 0.985G
- Power: 240hp
- Weight: 1461kg
Just missing out on the finals is the Shima Amelie. With decent stats all around, this car has only a couple of weaknesses, namely sportiness and practicality, being only a two seater. On the other hand, it stands out in comfort, with no other car coming even close to it in that stat.
While I really like the front fascia, I can’t say the same about the rest of the car. The sides are too empty, and some badging would really help the rear. It’s not a bad design, but it could be better.
Overall it’s a good effort, but the finalists were better. A more detailed design and a stronger focus on sportiness and performance instead of comfort would have given it a better chance to make it to the finals.
The finalists are:
Styling isn’t my strongest quality and I could have maybe sacrificed some comfort for sportiness but good effort anyway
Final Round
Only the best of the best left. These four cars are far ahead of the previous competitors.
4. Llud Elene T230 (139.8 points) @the-chowi
- Lap time: 1:22.43
- 0-100 km/h: 4.64s
- 20m radius: 1.00G
- 200m radius: 0.996G
- Power: 233hp
- Weight: 1023kg
This small mid-engined convertible is not only the fastest car, it’s arguably the best looking too. It looks striking in that electric blue coloring and I can’t find a single issue with it. Therefore, it gets a perfect score in design.
Obviously, it’s not a very practical car. Drivability isn’t great either, and safety takes a hit from using only basic 10s and aluminium chassis and panels. Other than that, the Llud Elene is an excellent car with high stats all around.
In fact, the biggest weakness of the Elene is that the only other mid-engined car in the challenge is better in the top priorities and cheaper.
3. Neko RS (145.3 points) @yakiniku260
- Lap time: 1:29.64
- 0-100 km/h: 7.53s
- 20m radius: 0.975G
- 200m radius: 0.989G
- Power: 113hp
- Weight: 767kg
Remember when I said that even the slowest cars still had a chance? This is what I was talking about. Despite having the second to last lap time, the Neko RS still manages to get an impressive third place. This car might be very slow and unsafe, but it’s also the most reliable and the cheapest at $22200. It’s cheap to run too, thanks to low service costs and excellent fuel economy.
Design might be the weakest out of the finalist, but I like the late 80s hot hatch look with the widebody and RS Limited (or Limited RS if you look at it from the other side) decals on the doors, although the rear doesn’t really match the rest of the car.
A good, unique car that goes for a more economical route. I have to say that going for 2 seats only instead of a 2+2 was a mistake for this car. I’m not 100% sure of how it would affect the rest of the stats, but if it was more practical it would have been the winner.
2. Swanson 220 GSC b-spec (146.8 points) @Ludvig
- Lap time: 1:22.47
- 0-100 km/h: 5.12s
- 20m radius: 1.13G
- 200m radius: 1.13G
- Power: 230hp
- Weight: 1249kg
The Swanson 220 is the most unique looking car in this challenge. The retro modern design works really well and the two tone coloration is wonderful too. I’m not fond of the circular sunroof, but other than that it’s a great design and one of the most original cars I have seen.
Engineering is great too, with strong stats all around. Reliability and cornering stand out, specially the latter, beign the only car to pull over 1.10Gs thanks to semislick tyres. However, this is a double-edged sword. When combined with the 98 RON fuel this car needs to run, the service costs jump up to $1828.
A very good car and the only one in the finals with more than two seats. It would have been a very worthy winner, but high SVC means it will have to settle for second place.
1. Zephorus Amida (147.9 points) @Riley
- Lap time: 1:24.30
- 0-100 km/h: 5.53s
- 20m radius: 1.05G
- 200m radius: 1.06G
- Power: 186hp
- Weight: 1073kg
Let’s get the negatives out of the way first. Fuel economy is a bit high, and, like the Llud, a mid-engined two seater is not very practical. Every other stat of the Zephorus Amida is good, with sportiness and enviromental resistance being well above the rest of the competitors. Service costs are also surprinsingly low.
Design is also great, as expected of a Zephorus, although I’m not a fan of the huge splitter and I think the Llud pulls the budget supercar looks better. Still, an excellent design with a lot of attention to detail and very agressive aero.
It’s fast, it looks good and it’s also surprisingly cheap to buy and run. Considering this, the Zephorus Amida is the perfect budget weekend warrior.
Closing Thoughts
This was fun to host, but man it has also been a nightmare for me behind the scenes, I screwed myself with the deadline extension. I plan on hosting more challenges relatively soon, but please never let me host anything in December or during an open beta again. Anyways thanks for taking part and/or reading, see y’all soon and have a great day.
Great challenge, well written and well formatted. Thanks for making it fun!
