I like the more simplistic styling of late 2000s GM, but that’s just me.
Oddly enough I find myself amused by the HHR… unlike the PT Cruiser which I consider is the ugliest car ever made.
That Chevrolet utility vehicle you posted though… is sex on wheels… for a van.
As for the 2 door Cobalt… yeah… I hate tail-lights of that design in general. I think I know their train of logic though. “2 door = sport. Needs Ferrari / Skyline lights.”
The 4 door Cobalt’s posterior is actually aesthetically pleasing though.
Here’s some more ugly… the Chevrolet Spark
Why not stretch the headlights onto the bloody A-Pillar while they’re at it?
The ass-end isn’t any better;

They are also sold exclusively in fugly colors, as you’ve seen here… and here’s another
I a-actually l-like the spark…
Hey now! Cut Lincoln some slack. They’ve been wallowing in a pit of sadness since the 1970s, particularly in the styling department. ( EDIT: Should probably clarify. I actually quite like the new Lincoln stylings. I am hoping it marks a resurgence. )
Also given Ford’s stakes in Jaguar Land Rover, its not surprising the stylings are so similar.
Ditto. I really don’t understand people’s collective boner for the Hurucan. Its a cheese wedge with headlights and its not even the superest super car around. The Ferrari 488 - now theres a proper looking super car - or at least more proper looking.
A friend of mine actually pointed that out to me once about the 2 door’s rear styling and said that was the exact reason he liked it. Of course, this was the same friend that thinks the Hurucan is the most beautiful car ever and who wants twin turbo the 5.7 Hemi in his Jeep so that it will blaze all four tires like Ken Bloc’s Mustang.
As for the Spark, I actually don’t mind it at least in comparison to other A-segment cars. As a rule, all A-segment cars are ugly and the Spark I think happens to be the least ugly of many piles of shit like the Toyota iQ or the Smart. The proportions could use work, and the colors certainly more so, but Spark I think has a least sense of lines, flow, and shape unlike the the others I mentioned where there are no lines or flow and everything looks and juts out out like a hacked-up tumor.
Seriously, the Smart and iQ look like they designed the top and bottom halves of the car separately (with hatchets mind you), put them together, realized the scaling was wrong and said “Aww screw it. We’ll just smooth out the crease with an angle grinder.”
To add yet another Chevrolet to the list.
2008-2012 Chevy Malibu
Not because its necessarily bad but because its so… mundane. There is just nothing special about this car, stylistically or performance-wise. It is car. Generic car. Which I think is a greater sin than doing something weird and edgy like the Nissan Juke or the Pontiac Aztek because their at least trying albeit failing. Its also especially sad considering the Malibu used to be a sport/luxury trim for the A-body Chevelle in the late 60s and 70s, a right beautiful car.
i know about that Gen malibu, my grandmother has a base model that i got to drive. it’s the definition of boring. gray exterior, gray interior, best way to describe the car is… gray. only way to have fun in it is to plug in something to the factory Aux connector
Guess I’m the odd one out with the Spark… to me that’s the most offensive looking in the segment. That said… I consider it in a different class than the Smart or IQ. I group it with the Hyundai Accent and Fiat 500… both of which I find significantly more attractive.
I don’t really have anything against the Malibu. Yeah; it’s a generic sedan… but the same can be said for most of it’s rivals; the Altima, Camry, Sonata, and Jetta. Really the only one out of that class that stands out is the 2010+ Kia Optima… that is a sexy looking sedan.
My beef against that generation Malibu lies in the headlights. I helped a co-worker change them, we had to take the bumper off in order to access the bulbs. Simple mundane repairs like that should not require bending over at the dealership in order to get fixed.
The 488 is not a very good looking supercar which is made worse by its predecessor being better looking than it. Also why do you all insult cars i like
If you’re referring to the F430, I agree. If you mean the 458 Italia… Yeah… A designer clearly made a mistake when aligning the hood to the bumper and headlights…
So I’m not the only one who thinks that. It looks like such a defect, and I hate that thing.
That’s the SSR.
I have a tough time giving a definitive answer. Let me put it this way… it’s not something I want to own.
That said… I have to give GM credit for producing it. If I had seen that as a concept at an auto-show, I would put money on the fact that it would never see the light of day… but it did… and that’s kind of cool. Shame though that some more interesting and useful concepts never saw the light of day.
That’s the second brain fart of mine in twenty minutes.
What is wrong with me, I knew that, why did I write HSS… *facepalm*
I like the SSR because its the only vehicle i would consider a ute thats been sold in the US recently.
I would like it [SSR]… If:
Chrome didn’t cross the headlights
The rest of the grill was chrome
the fenders had more curve
Retro handles were put on it.
For me the SSR is one of those vehicles that has the potential to look sweet, but was done up “too modern” to fulfill that potential.
i like the SSR, because it was in MM3 and that was my jam when i was 8.
Lexus UX concept.
Like Jesus Christ what the fuck is that. It seriously looks like it belongs in a horror movie.
The Spark is kind of a weird position. Because its sold in the US where we still don’t really spring for true tiny A segments like Smarts and iQ’s and sold in Europe where GM already had a B segment, it kind of derives a size category unto its own.
As for the competitor sedans, I suppose that is valid. I still maintain the Malibu was especially bland though. The Jetta had a diesel and an I5 (beautiful exhaust note BTW), the Altima was sold in 2 door version, and IMO they all managed to be more interesting stylistically.
Agree to disagree on the 488.
Also don’t, take anything I say personally. If it makes you feel any better I drive one of these. Also surprised no has mentioned this yet as one of the uglies…
My friends all give me tons of crap for it… and then it comes time to move out at the end of school term and they can’t fit all their stuff in their cars while I can. And even loaded down it still gets 30 MPG.
That being said I still hate it. Not for the styling (I am one of those weirdos who actually likes it) but for the everything else. Its a completely sane practical car. That’s what I don’t like. It accelerates like shit. It handles like shit. It rides like shit. And its generally a piece of shit because I bought it second hand so lots of stuff hasn’t been done right.
@phale
It’s Godzirra!!!
@kmBlaine
I dunno… I think I find that era of Malibu more attractive than the Jetta… and I just don’t like I5s as a concept… and I’ll always hate all Altimas after the 2001, so that’s just me there and is a biased thought
Ah, the Scionic box. Believe it or not, I thought it was kind of cool when I first saw it at the Auto Show… but that wore off quickly… now I actively dislike them. Once you see the other wheeled-boxes Japan has made… you start to see there are better options. They should have made her a cab-forward van-ish thing instead… it would at least be cute then, and have even more room.
Now the Nissan Cube. Is that any better? It is slightly more amusing to look at… so I guess I give it one single point above the Scion… but that isn’t saying much.
I did like the Cube’s commerical here though for some reason… it was cute and happy. It didn’t make me want to buy the thing… but it also didn’t make me want to spit at my TV, as most car commercials do these days.
