Automation Beginners League - season 82/83 drawing to an end!

I love what I’ve been able to do with a 6800 cc OHV engine with no limits to sliders other than cost.
+15 on cams and valves is kinda great.
Also, DCOE carbs are still great

I’m wondering what I can push out of an I4, or maybe an I3

I’m utterly screwed by my unwritten lore. No V8, and the highest power/litre possible. So any idea about the capacities for the next league?

Don’t imagine it should be too different.

If the DOHC 24V V8s will become forbidden, the DFM build two engines, which only could be used one season :joy:. . But if you steel our toy´s we will build a new one.

ABL - '72-'73 Season Review

@Pzike - Pft, who needs cylinders

Let’s start with one of my favorite cars at the grid: The spiritual successor of the @DeusExMackia car, Erin Merna Touring, the car whose name is his motto: Pft, who needs cylinders!
This is a not-so-small, really light, motorized by a 2.6L DOHC inline-4 engine in a FR style car. It’s a well balanced, really good at the corners. And is really good that it is a race, because if you go for a ride at the backseat and the driver hits a pothole or a speed bump, you’ll probably suffer a spine fracture, since the rear axle is right under the backseat and the rear suspensions is really hard.

@lordvader - Thundershook

@lordvader opted by a different approach, he took a pony car body and fitted an 4.2L DOHC V8 at the where before was the backseat, and the exhaust pass right by the trunk, going out the middle of the rearend. About the looks it have a nice pair of grill-covered headlights that I loved!

@szafirowy01 - Flying Derp GT8R

This tail lights are really nice and some of the drivers will be able to appreciate it for sure. With a 4.2 DOHC V8 it have a great amount of power to keep it’s “creepy face” scaring you at you mirror and it can corner well enough.

@HighOctaneLove - Bogliq Expresso AE (Race)

Bogliq team choose to update the last season car, first thing they took the suede finish from panel and doors, them they updated the engine to get some more hps from it and have done some more fine tuning. The car is a monster at the corners, but with only 2.5L at the DOHC inline-6 it’ll be a hard task to keep up with the big boys at the straights, even more being a FR car.

@FrankNSTein - FSR 460R

And here is our vice-champion! The FSR team suffered a blow this season, with the ban of Project ABL01’s body they had to make a completely new project. The 460R uses a 4.2L DOHC V8 in a MR style and is one of the most powerful cars at the grid, but one the heaviest too, since the FSR team needs to have at least 1200kg.

@Fayeding_Spray - SkyHigh Ganja

Here we have another different entry, a van. Every good challenge at the Automation community receive a van entry at least once, this is the proof that we have a good challenge!
About the Ganja, we have double wishbones suspension at both front and rear, a 3.6L SOHC V6 engine and 1208kg. Yeah, it won’t be a danger for anyone, but it will parade at the track!

@Newtonmeter - DFM Entwicklung

This is truly a german car, since the time I’ve put my eyes in it I already knew the company’s country. It’s a cold war gun, made to make its enemies tremble! It is light and a lot powerful, but using a 4.2L DOHC V8 and less than 900kg it have lot’s and lot’s of wheel spin, it’ll make smoke even over 150 km/h! But it is a corner slayer, there isn’t a corner this car won’t make, I mean, if the driver manages the accelerator.

@Crossworks - The Ugly Btch Squared

The Ulgy Btch is back! This time in a Squared version, @Crossworks bring us a Hot-Hatch (really hot) with a 4.2 DOHC V8 in a FR design and lots of lightness, so as half of the grid it accelerates fast, but covered in tyre smoke. The design looks a lot 80~90-ish, not realy from the ‘70s, but who am I to judge? We are still in ‘72 so how could I even know about the future designs, right?

@JohnWaldock - JHW 4200GT ‘Flat Kamm’

Simple car, made to race, not to appeal for aesthetics, with a smooth surface to cut the air as a sword of a middle age knight. Another one using a 4.2L DOHC V8 engine, this time in a FR setup with a good amount of power and good cornering capabilities. We will see some good fight involving this knight.

@Steel - AJR Magneto RRR

And we have another MR car, but this time it hides a 4.4L SOHC V8 at the trunk. Good cornering and great acceleration make of this ambulant-grill-car-with-a-sad-face a great opponent!

@gridghost - Scarab Cirrus GT R

The Scarab team is another one that choose to update the last season car, they changed the 4.5L SOHC V8 for a 4.2L DOHC gaining some good amount of power, but it costed some kg. Have a good amount of power and a reasonable cornering. My guess is that it’ll get a good mid-grid position.

@Darkshine5 - Licorne Rallye

And the Licorne Rallye is back too, with it’s great cambor fiber hood and trunk and it’s amazing fenders. With the new rules they needed to reduce the 4.5L to 4.4L but kept the SOHC and the inline-6 design. The car is a little heavier, with a tiny bit more power and with average cornering.

@LordLetto - Andare

With it’s strange headlights layout that remembered a spider and with it’s 8 exhausts full of round holes, it attacked my arachnophobia and my trypophobia, so it was quite the disgusting car for me to look, even though I liked the vents over the doors. It uses a 3.6 DOHC V6, lacks a little on power and on cornering capability.

@nialloftara - Centauri Slendghamm

Another car with a lot of vents, with a angry look at the front and a scary face at the rear, so the cars in front step aside the ones at the back don’t come near. It uses an impressive and huge 6.8L OHV V8 and is incredibly light, even with this heavy engine, so of course it have lots of wheel spin until the 3rd gear, it’s a great smoke machine.

@koolkei - Stabille Lyte

And here we have another hot-hatch with another 4.2L DOHC V8, but this one looks a little more ‘70-ish, what is a good thing, but have even more wheel spin, even though is heavier and have wider tyres. One thing that keeps bothering me is about the exhausts, there are 4 tiny exhausts at the rear, but I’m sure it isn’t enough to let the engine brief, so where go the rest of the smoke?

@rileybanks - Mole Moniya

The Mole team decided to update their last season car too, they downsized the 4.5L SOHC to a 4.2L DOHC, both V6, getting around 30hp more. The car is a little too heavy and isn’t the best looking one, with it’s dislocated headlights.

@Xoury - Apex Dx

@Xoury tries a completely new strategy with a FR car this time and changing his 3.7L SOHC V12 that was banned to a 6.8L OHV V8, heavy and with lots of power to compensate for the weight penalty, keeping around the same weight/power ratio. At least it doesn’t have so much wheel spin, because of the weight. It looks like a generic toon car, mostly because of the rear, but yet is kinda nice.

@lukerules117 - modelA

The modelA uses a 4.2L DOHC V8 that deliver an impressive power (and smoke). The low weight and the good suspensions setup makes this sober looking car really good at cornering, so is better to what out for this guy.

Wait… I remember that i went with a 4.4L sohc V8 though… Did i change that?

I like where this is going :grin:.
Xoury is really kicking-asses with his 1200kg car! I thought those heavy cars won’t have a real chance

I wouldn’t be so sure about that…
Race results updated!

Yep. The weight is a huge penalty on the track but the 460R seems to do well in drag races :smile:

Damn, forgot about the Drag-Race thing…thats the Weekness of the FR cars, and the MR-Cars can score alot points and the 1/4 mile will be even worse i think.

I’m surprised how much more there was to get out of what I had from what my final submission was, I was able to get another 2ish seconds off Laguna seca

Notes:
Race exhausts are not worth, too expensive
Also, bigger trunks are better for getting all the weight you can on the drive wheels

3 Likes

Wow, thats impressive, i tried to play with the trunk, but the aero balance changed and i lost g’s at the high speed cornering,

I really lerned alot with this car. A perfekt low-speed balance can cost alot at high-speed cornering, so you had to try to balance high an low speed cornering. So without areo-elements you need a aero neutral body,

SO CLOSEEEEE BUT SO FARRRRRRR

but 2nd… in any racing competitions is a win for me. i’ll take it

Wow thanks Nomade0013 for the results.

:grin: my balls were tickling all the time since i build this car. I
So which will be my punichment? A Van, or a pick-up body? Only 3 Wheels? Eco-Carbs? a max tire with of 195?

No matter what i will take it :slight_smile:

But with their penalties the 1200kg guys did a great job.
And koolkei, the first season was so close!

edit: Wow at some tracks the gap was kinda big :open_mouth:

Yeah, even with the penalty the guys managed very well.

That was the intention, some tricky tracks like Monaco, tracks more freely like Suzuka and ATT and some Drags, so we can see some big changes at the results. Last round finishing grid was almost the same every race and that was boring.

About next round we will do some recalculations and talk a little before showing the rules. If there is anything you guys want to say we are hearing.

Yes talk to us please!

I’m super happy with where I came! My car was nowhere near as good at the 70/71 season so nice to see it still do well at the drags!

Damn! Missed the podium by a single point! Fun contest and I’ll definitely trying to update my entry for the next round.
