Where can I find the .lua files?
In My Documents/My Games/Automation, there are subfolders with your car and engine .lua files.
After extensive testing, Ardent has nixed both the Midnight and Starlight based models for the 1955 racing season. Following European roadster trends, they have put together their own pint-sized entry. Here it is, the Ardent 119B:
Honestly I would liked to have given it a go with one of the other bodies, but given that I was able to get this one 2-8 seconds faster on Brands Hatch, 3-9 seconds faster on Automation track, and up to 40 seconds faster on Green Hell, I ended up giving in to the craze.
Thank you for understanding, Der Bayer! As always, youāre the best!
I think my comment was getting diluted through the discussion. It wasnāt a complaint so much as a suggestion. I donāt propose to tell others how to run competitions. I donāt run them myself, mainly to to the serious effort and commitment they require. I do love participating in them, however. Right now, most of our cars will be null and void by the time v1.0 is released, due to numerous changes and additions still to come. I just thought it would be better to establish a precedent for a unique system so later, when cars will not be nullified by many upcoming changes, we could retain them at a higher rate. Yes, I just overwrote my 1945 submission. It doesnāt bother me (much) because I had the submitted one backed up. Itās not present, but also not lost. The new save system presents a unique challenge, as renaming it automatically overwrites what was uniquely named. Pre-steam versions retained the old file and renamed a new file when saved with a new name. So they should be overwritten with unique names also. That is all I was saying. Thanks for listening.
As an aside, those of you who have received submissions from me know how I submit ALL of my cars. I follow file naming conventions (I think), but additionally, I separate the zip file into Automation-named folders for easy installation. I do this to make it easier for the event host, and I have not received a complaint (yet) about doing this extra step. So Iām all about making it easier for the event hosts, as I appreciate their time to host events!

I also keep the Automation folder structure so files can be copied over as easy as possible, the less stress the organizer has the higher the chance they will host a race again
Yes, in a way it is too bad. I designed another car first, but then noticed some pictures here and didnāt recognize the car in the game. Then I noticed it was an added car. Sadly it does seem to be much faster, so by now it has become a no-brainer to use this one I think.
Not a bad thing necessarily that was the case in 1945 too, with the only viable body being the small oneā¦ that leads to some fierce competition and really close races, which is good!
Iāll give another larger body a try for the first trainings to see how far I can push one of them up the ranks.
I am surprised none is using the Coupe bodyā¦
Sorry for being that guy who doesnāt understand. But Iād rather that than being the guy who does it wrong and doesnāt have his car entered. Anyway, is this how Iām meant to name the car? and then just send in to you four lua files?
It should look like this:
BRC1955-AshleyBlack-Cars-Models, BRC1955-AshleyBlack-Cars-Trims, BRC1955-AshleyBlack-Engines-Families, BRC1955-AshleyBlack-Engines-Variants
Oh I think I understand now thanks. However, new slight problem: this title wont change. Anyone know why?
(Sorry for being a huge pain. This is my first challenge since steam. Everything has changed, itās very strange)
Maybe message Der Bayer and see if heāll accept the files as they are?
Otherwise you might have to re-make your car

You read my mind it seems. Iāve just taken pictures of every screen so I can remake the car haha
From now on I should be okay. Thank you
Just keep changing the name and going to results page. It took me many tries to make it save correctly for me too. Not sure why, but sometimes if you try to change the name after itās been saved it wants to fight you. Itās not really consistent enough to report as a bug, as I canāt duplicate it every timeā¦only sometimes.
It might be that you need to make a change to the car for it to take the name (thatās a bug). Just change any slider up and down again, then leave the designer, the name should save then.
Tried that, Killrob. Thatās not it. Although it ended up working eventually as 07CobaltGirl said. All is well now, thanks guys
This might be a silly question (yes I used the search feature inside the thread) BUT are we allowed to use DOHC? It wasnāt mentioned in the rules, however it isnāt particularly time period correct for '55.
Try to stay period correct with pushrods is killing me :-p
You can use DOHC - both single and dual overhead camshafts have been a thing since before WWII.
I think one of the reasons why Automation starts in 1940 is that many of the most important engine-related technical advances were already complete by that period.
Even earlier: Duesenberg. (designed and built by german immigrants )
