Well, I know I’m on the right track after that. Time to go back and do some more tweaking.
I wish I knew WHAT to tweak (hammers dont adjust suspension settings that well, I am rather clueless here), I think I am at the limits of what I had in mind, everything I try to do just ends up costing time or money so I think I wait for the next test to see where I fall.
I have a lot of room monetarily for changes, I think I was a couple grand shy of the limit. But like you I don’t know the intricacies, particularly of suspension, to be able to tweak it well.
Maybe make my brakes +15 quality? lol
If you have that much cash left to burn you better use it! I think I have enough left to buy a candy bar… You came in 4th though so you’re doing something right! Can I borrow your mechanic for a bit to fix my suspension? LOL
I need to play around with my gearbox.
Once i get going im at a decent pace but out of corners i just dont have the legs
Fastest laps and lowest tire wear, so pretty happy overall, although Der Bayer was breathing down my neck pretty hard.
I figured you would build a competition, but didn’t figure you would have one quite so soon. Are you still doing the 1945 cars? if so I hope to have one for you soon.
So, I’ve gone ahead and entered my first Community Challenge or Competition with a race version of the Packbat Auto Works Puma, in 1970s green (shut up, it’s awesome):
I said ‘race version’ because, in a truly brilliant move, I decided that I would start by making a who-knows-if-it’s-actually-reasonable sedan first, and then creating a new trim to raise it to competition spec. And while I did make a second car for the BRC using the more streamlined and lightweight small '40s body, I thought to myself, “No, I’m going to stick to my guns! The small body is going to be overrepresented! I want to stand out!”
I’m looking forward to seeing how well I do. I’m hoping I place well in the novice pack.
I too find it really boring with no sound playing. Can I suggest playing some popular songs from the year of the race? Perhaps add a little commentary to talk about the cars and the race? and if you’re really keen you can set up various points on the track that could record the cars as they go past? But that one might be easier said than done and the commentary would take some time, but the music to fit the decade would be cool
Looks like you bought the paint at an army surplus store. I like it, the new paint system is so much more versatile than the previous.
Thanks, RobtheFiend! I really like the new paint system, too.
These would definitely all be really cool things to do, but you’re right that they would be various degrees of tricky:
[ul]]I’m not sure how to find free music by time of recording, but it might be possible to find stuff prior to 1962 that is available on a free license in the U.S. Might be easier to find free music in the style of the time./:m]
]Getting the car sounds right would be amazing (I suggest the first timing point as a good place for the virtual microphone) but it’d be tricky because you would have to combine the engine sound simulation (which I don’t think is built-in to MATLAB) and include the Doppler effect. If you can swing it it will be amazing, though./:m]
]Commentary (especially ‘live’ i.e. blind commentary) would be great - how much information does the B.R.O.B.O.T. present to work with? Enough to give you plenty to talk about?/:m][/ul]
I need to do something to improve…12th and losing 3 seconds to 11th is bad…I’ll try to make a revision to set the gears & suspension around friday.
How much may we still alter in terms of the cars? May I swap an engine for example?
Another question: Der Bayer, could you explain the impact of drive-ability of the cars on lap times/wear?
You may change everything before the first official training session (i.e. before the deadline).
The driveability effect on the laptime/cornering speeds is the same like in the game: A high Driveability/Sportiness ratio won’t penalise your cornering speeds (in corners with a high difficulty rating in the track file) much.
Tyre wear: currently it’s about the amount of over/understeer during cornering (yaw rate graph), brake pads (how good the driver can control the brakes) during braking, tyre compound and camber. So on more curvy tracks tyre wear will be higher than on fast, straight tracks, too. Wheelspin will be considered in the next update.
Deadline is on March 29.
I might include songs of the Automation soundtrack for the official challenge sessions, I do at least have the permission for that. Car sounds? … Let’s keep our feet on the carpet. Commentary: The event logging at the bottom will be improved, I know some more feedback would be nice. I won’t do any commenting myself (time reasons), but some people already approached me and asked if they could do it. I think this should be doable at least for some of the races.
Regarding file naming: This has much improved since my last post (thanks a lot), now only 20% of people refuse to read the instructions. For those I will have a present (weight penalties) from the 1955 challenge on.
Soltra Has decided to pull out as the failure that was the first pre season testing
Awwwwwwwww dont do that! Just keep your car the same but run it under one of the default suspension setups (Normal, Sport, Race etc)! See if that changes for the better, there is still one test left before the main season

Its 30 secs a lap slower so year
Edited because I said something dumb.
Nah man, stick with it, I’ve got a lot to catch up too.
Send me your car file if you want and I’ll see if there is anything I can see that might help
(It’s not cheating because I’m a bit rubbish)
Dont let that get you down, on my car if I change my front spring rate by ONE click I loose 15 seconds when I test the car, it is amazing what one little click can do, please dont give up!
So in terms of naming for people who dont understand what goes where (like me)… well, what goes where?
Which one is the engines model or platforms and which one is cars platforms and cars trims.
From left to right.
“GenJeFT-Cars-Platforms”, “GenJeFT-Cars-Trims”, “GenJeFT-Engines-Platforms” and “GenJeFT-Engines-Models”
