Running costs, 5 points

For this round i calculated the fuel costs of each car over 5000 miles and then added on the service costs. I know the service costs in the game are kind of shitty, but it’s all we have so there we go. Some cars have great economy and bad service costs, some are the other way round. The ideal is trying to find the happy medium.

I was pretty scared for that round. Ever since the last update I haven’t been able to keep running costs under $1000 for anything I’ve built. I was excited to make it out of that round ahead still!

it fully tracks that my turbocharged italian car from the 70s would lose out in that round lol

The game really unfairly penalises turbocharged cars with high service costs. Especially for modern cars which are basically all turbocharged

That explains why most of my challenge entries since the latest 4.3 update have been naturally aspirated - including the '05 Acolyte.

Technically speaking this is still a four horse race but the Shenhua would need to be the most practical car and the Durendal get less than 0.8 points now to still win. Podium places are still to play for though.

Not sure how the game works out a medium sized hatchback is the most practical tbh but here we are.The Planar is three whole points ahead of the second place car.

only one actual change with this round. Bit of an anti climax i guess after it being so close up to the end.

Really interesting to see the top four cars slowly rise up the ranks early on and then just stay there throughout the competition.

Practicality stat is indeed pretty nonsense, that’s why I used my own formula with several modifiers in QFC29. I think the luggage space is the most unreasonable, I don’t remember the specifics but for sure I had to substract quite large flat modifiers for some body styles to get it down to realistic numbers (while other body styles had it already sensible).

As for the results, I think Myria did pretty well, considering the chasm in price between it and anything else :smile: And now I see that it really is too mild in its styling for what it’s meant to be - and probably too extreme otherwise, for the power it has :stuck_out_tongue:
TBH I quite liked how the challenge was run, considering I wasn’t in a hurry to know the results (which, IMO, is pretty normal for a non- or semi-recurring challenge). Maybe a few more words on each car would be nice, but it was still good, and releasing scoring category by category made it somewhat more exciting.

Thanks for the win! It was really close there. I’ve noticed that the game severely punishes wide cars in the practicality stat. That’s understandable in certain markets (Europe, etc), but in the US it’s really not as much of concern. That’s probably why the Rhania scored so poorly.

Pretty satisfied in the end with having made the best 20th century car. It really was a battle of some rather similar (modern hot hatch) cars in the end.
