CSC73 New Frontier

1992 Arima Headquarters

The year is 1992, and Arima long known for their dependable sedans, practical wagons, and sharp-edged coupes is facing a rapidly shifting automotive market. Rising demand for sport-utility vehicles is reshaping customer expectations, pushing even the most traditional automakers to explore new territory. After decades spent perfecting road-going family cars, Arima now finds itself stepping into unfamiliar terrain.

Following a series of modest design refreshes, the company is due for a bold new move. Under pressure from global competitors and eager to modernize the brand, Arima’s leadership decides to initiate a project unlike anything they’ve attempted before: their first SUV, a vehicle that will introduce the company to an entirely new segment.

But unlike their previous vehicles, this project will not begin inside Arima’s own design center. Acknowledging their lack of experience in off-road design, Arima takes an uncharacteristic step: they partner with a design studio to craft the SUV from the ground up. From the exterior styling to the cabin architecture, the studio is tasked with bringing a fresh perspective while honoring Arima’s established design cues.

Embracing this challenge, the design studio begins what Arima calls “Project New Frontier”, a bold initiative meant to establish the company’s identity in the SUV world. Arima envisions a vehicle that reflects their ambitions a model designed to stand beside the industry’s rising stars and signal Arima’s evolution as it enters the 1990s with renewed purpose.

What country is Arima from?

I don’t think you’d be particularly picky about whether the exterior is for an LHD or RHD market.

Im asking because car design can vary from country to country thank you

are these more luxurious or rugged suvs?

you’re free to create any type of SUV. whether it’s luxurious or pure off-road.

cool, ta

pretty sure this is a bit too modern

yeah it’s kinda leaning into mid 00s. if you’re struggling with keeping it within the design era feel free to take a look at the irl inspirations.

does this headlight design fit arima’s design language

Just make a design close to the mid 80s as vehicles from that era did not change til around 1995 or something

nah i might just not enter lmao

Arima Radar by Propeller:

A small SUV, for urban exploring

But wait there is more!

Next to a SC trim, we also propose two other trims for the Radar:

The “Fun!” trim is designed for activ young people, being priced underneath or at the SC trim but featuring more unique trim options like the removable glass targa top and the removeable rear hatch

To also add something high trim, we suggest the Radar SR. Designed here with a modified 2.6L Twinturbo inline 6 engine. Reaching speeds of over 230 km/h on sand and gravel

All Radar’s are fitted with all-wheel-drive and a 2.6L inline six engine. The Fun! can also be fitted with a smaller engine for more cost savings

1992 Arima Palantir - Design proposal from Stu Stu Studio

The modern family vehicle is undergoing a transition. Vehicle buyers are concerned with safety, versatility, and capability more than ever. Arima recognizes the burgeoning market for SUVs made for families, with plans for a 1992 release. In development is a new 3.5 litre DOHC V6 with variable valve timing for power and efficiency. Estimated to produce a healthy 225 horsepower with 245 lb. ft. of torque on a nice flat curve for instant response and effortless passing power. Independent front suspension provides surprising comfort while light power steering makes manouverability a snap. Fully automatic push button 4WD puts added safety and capability at your fingertips, while the carlike interior provides comfort and space for five, and with the rear seat removed, ample cargo space for whatever your heart desires. And it’s all wrapped in a design that is sure to endure.

1992 Arima Savero LC 4x4

Design proposal from VADES

After Arima reached out to the studio, Vaire Automotive Designing Studio or VADES had been designing this new project with enthusiastic hearts for countless of hours. Finally, the real-size prototype is completed. Introducing the Savero LC 4x4. Inspired by other Arima models at the time, VADES team have blended premium and rugged looks into one. Key styling features being smooth, yet strong front end and rear faux light bar for futuristic looks. With practicality in their minds, the Savero features an openable rear window for easy access to the cargo area. A placeholder engine for this car is a tried-and-true utilitarian V6 from Vaire, although badged as AC60E for Arima. VADES team hopes this proposal could catch Arima’s executive eyes.
