Group B Rally

Min engine reliability 20 now huh? This changes things!

Now I’ll give getting that 1000hp or 1:1 power ratio a crack.

if so strop you should call your car spintires because that’s what it will only do

Sounds good, that’s how I roll

Offtopic: There’s an AWESOME driving simulator called spintyres… You drive soviet era trucks through the Russian forests logging timber. It has persistent environmental effects, and the entire environment, dirt, mud, trees, lakes, is physics modelled. You can get bogged, tow things, use manual locking diff, destroy trees… It’s ridiculous amounts of fun.

and from there i got the idea

KM Vatanen Turbo, named after finnish rally driver Ari Vatanen.

I’ll post the road version on my company page soon.

This entry’s so 80’s it hurts! :stuck_out_tongue: I expect something by Duran Duran to play every time it appears on screen!

I had another entry candidate in the works where the front looked like a mix of Ford Sierra and Escort Cosworth and the back looked like a Daihatsu Charade and I kept hearing synthpop music in my head

The Centauri Samael, 2.1 liters of turbocharged All Wheel Drive nightmare.

may I have 2 cars one for 4 L and 2 L class?

This was answered with a “no” on page 2 of the thread.

The boys from the CPV shed have been so kind as to send Gryphon Gear a 1000hp engine. This delights Strop, who hadn’t been planning on entering due to time and manufacturing constraints, but always liked the idea of a Group B rally spec tournament.

So now, much to the horror of his colleagues, especially his designated co-driver, GG’s usual test driver, Kai, he is now tossing up between two options:

  1. Digging up the old blueprints to an aborted project called ‘Widowmaker’, which originally shoehorned a 2500hp engine into a rebuilt replica of the 1975 Ford Falcon XB, which would look hilariously ridiculous on a Group B rally stage.
  2. Cramming the engine into the shell of a VW Golf Mk2, which would be several hundred kg lighter, and therefore drive hilariously ridiculously.

As long as this stuff doesn’t concern Class 2, I’m fine

Decided power to weight ratio was better, although I did notice if I went past a certain tipping point the car actually did much worse around the track, presumably due to crashing a lot

So here you go, one Not-VW Golf Mk.II with CPV’s prototype >1000hp 1986 bi turbo V8. I was amazed that this was actually possible, though the very sharp torque curve means I had real issues with turbo lag and gearing. And the poor bastard who drives this is going to struggle with throttle control because one second you’re barely getting 300nm and then 500rpm later it’s like WHOAAAAAAA.

For convenience, we’ve nicknamed her Freya, because I don’t know. There’s also a really obscene exhaust outlet, because lol.

Did you nick that exhaust tip off some guy’s Subaru?

Err yeah. Something like that  Can you imagine the size of the flames this thing’s gonna spit out?

It’s even tuned to run slightly rich, for Better fire breathing.

How I imagine the torque suddenly kicking in after the lag:

Oh yeah I noticed that and actually fixed it, along with some of the excessively high redline, and this time, it somehow still gets the same power. But the first time I tried that, I couldn’t recover the hp I lost! That engine is a strange one no doubt…

You had a problem with the 11100 redline?
