The third generation of Mara’s large Kavaler basically was a case more of the same compared to the previous generation. Traditional RWD layout, generous space in both the sedan and the wagon, and a mild-mannered V8 as top engine option, now in a more up-to-date all-alloy 4.0l SOHC 4V version. In true Mara fashion, the engine block was again comprised of essentially two of their 2.0 I4 engine blocks, simplifying development and production.
The Mk3’s party trick, however, was the newly developed multi-link rear axle which, as testers agreed, made a substantial difference to creature comfort on the notoriously bad Archanan roads, and was thus not just a marketing gimmick. Together with the 4.0 V8, the suspension allowed safe and predictable handling while retaining the ability to make a quick getaway even on bumpy roads and to hear the rear tyres squeal at low speeds.

Following the decline in sales of the first gen Matterhorn (1991-1997), the Hudson Motor Car Company was without a flagship SUV for several years. However, in light of the surge in SUV and Crossover popularity both in the US and around the world following several years of declining fuel prices amidst an economic upturn, the decision was made by HMCC executives in 1999 to revive the Matterhorn model name. Brand new for the 2002 model year, the Second Generation Hudson Matterhorn retains many of the popular styling cues from it’s predecessor, while resolving its performance deficiencies.
Several trim packages are available, including eco-friendly turbo diesel and inline-6 options, but the apex of the Matterhorn range lies in the V8 series - the base model V8, the professional V8R, the off-road capable V8X, and the ludicrous V8S (coming early 2002).
Four-wheel disc brakes are fitted as standard to reign in the power of Hudson’s new 4.4L V8 (itself a derivative of the motor famously used in the Hudson BRCC program a decade earlier), in addition to a variety of drivetrain options. Similarly, the well-appointed interior can be found in a number of fabric and leather finishes.
The V8R specifically funnels its V8 power through a computer-controlled Advanced Automatic transmission to a Limited-Slip Differential and on to the rear wheels. 20" 5-Spoke Alloy Wheels pair with the suggested Shadow Silver or Phantom Black paints for an understated, professional appearance - you aren’t just driving to do business in the V8R, it IS the business!
Additional features on this model include a plush Premium Leather interior with all electronic window controls and child safety locks. A fold-flat third row bench brings seating capacity to 8 occupants, protected by an electronic safety suite including Traction Control, Anti-Lock Brakes, and Driver, Passenger, Kneeboard, and Curtain airbags.
The suspension in the V8R is tuned for a mix of comfort and drivability, with a hint of sporty flair when the power of the V8 is unleashed.

1995 SUMA M315 "Fuera Plus"
For sale by owner! Used 1995 SUMA wagon, premium trim with leatherette seats, MPFI V6, multi-zone sound system, computerized transmission, electric QOL features, and plenty of other new and modern technologies! This wonderful example can be yours for only AMU$20,500!
Using SUMA’s staple RWD, manually locking system, the higher level powerplant gives this weekend warrior a thrilling 10 second 0-60 without compromising on the 25MPG (US), and produces enough power to pull all the additional camping equipment you’ll need. It doesn’t stop there, with cutting-edge safety technology (relative to other countries in Ospiana’s region) such as airbags for the driver and passenger and even all four doors, computer-controlled TC and ABS, and inertia-reel belts on every seat.
It’s small, efficient, fun, stylish, and perfect for your family no matter their needs, and thanks to SUMA’s proven robust* pedigree, it’ll never break the bank the next time you need your oil changed. It always has been, and always will be, a fantastic value. Call the owner’s number below to schedule a viewing and test drive!
*SUMA has not now or ever been accredited by the Euro NCAP or MOT for exceptional safety standards or quality and is not legally responsible in any accidents, injuries, or other cases in which the veracity of this claim may be decisive towards the outcome.
This version comes with anti-lock brakes and a limited slip differential to keep you on the road, a CD player to keep you entertained, the best safety gear wrapped up in a state of the art steel monocoque to keep you safe, and a 2.2 litre engine producing 222bhp to get you to your destination. All from $32,500.
Sometimes restraint is not the way to go. Arlington’s nigh-18 foot highway cruiser, the Archprince, is as spacious as it is audacious, blending old know-how with modern technology for a truly unprecedented motoring experience.
Like all Archprinces before it, the 2002+ model is a body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive, V8 car. However, the body-on-frame has been enhanced with CAD and manufactured out of stout high-strength steel for superior safety even in those pesky side impacts - aided by, what else, more airbags than you can count.
You get Arlington’s new 5-gear automatic transmission with Double Overdrive ™. You get a variable-timing 5-liter V8 providing miraculous yet reliable grunt, with a spring to 60 mph taking a mere 7 seconds. You get 5 or 7 seats depending on preference (The Americans, who are fine with front benches, can have 8), all-dics brakes with antilock, gas shocks, and the meanest full-size wagon look currently on the market. (Though this might be because full-size wagons aren’t a thing this century, which is how we cornered the market in the first place). Seriously, what’s not to like?
Don’t be boring and get a minivan or micro-MPV. Treat yourself and your family to something that much nicer, and with a better soundtrack to boot.

If I missed you, let me know quickly!
Unfortunately, there are some bad news after scrutineering.
Instabins
@SheikhMansour Engine ET over the limit (135)
@Banana_Soule Did not pass MOT - No catalyst on the engine
Transparency: @Lanson car had a trim ET of 120.1 (rounded, 120.137 raw). Considering there was an update and despite not detecting anything major from it, it is so close to 120 (and should give the car an advantage) that I allowed it to pass Scrutineering.
License Plates Warning I have been lenient on the UK plates rules. I previously had discussions with some of you on import/export, modded/accurate plates, EU vs UK plates, etc. Considering, all the remaining cars have at least a plate in front and back, that will be judge as passing MOT.
First round should come in the next day or two.
Thanks, yes the original build was definitely below the limit, I want to say 118ish. Oh joy of updates.
(in no particular order)
The kids are finally sleeping. The twins were so tired they could not sleep. It was a long day today for both Amanda and Keith. Saturday’s always are.
Entering the kitchen together, they looked at each other akwardly.
Amanda - “We have to do this tonight Keith”
Keith - “I know babe… I think I’ll need a strong drink for this.”
Amanda and Keith both built a list of cars that would be good to look at and combined them. Tonight was the night they had to go through the whole list - they had postponed it for days.
Keith poured himself a scotch and Amanda a beer.
They had just bought a new computer for the family, with dialup internet. Despite not having a ton of info online, most dealership had enough information to simplify the initial process.
They waited for the modem to connect and then had to wait some more to load the dealership pages…
Arlington Archprince Touring EX @Texaslav
Amanda “Well, this looks a bit too large and while not my style, it does not look too sporty and quite modern. Oh, it does seem to be one the safest car around. I am a bit wary of the car having over 200hp tho, with kids… and its costing our whole budget!!”
Keith “Wow, really dig this. The seats are premium, entertainment seems ok. Crap fuel economy. Also not the most practical, but it does have a super huge boot.”
Ryuji Rubik ES @Maverick74
Amanda “Ohh, that is more what I had in mind for a people mover. It does seems super reliable and super cost efficient, and the price is really great!!”
Keith “Wait what… this!? This is not a MPV, it is smaller than our bathtub. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that thing…” side eyes from Amanda “I mean, sure would be good for a family. Let me read more on it…” mumbles to himself “oh cock, I might actually die in that thing, it is so small…” turns to Amanda “I mean sure baby if you like it.”
Courageux 4+ @mart1n2005
Amanda “Now we are talking! This looks so cool, much more stylish and modern. The price is not too bad, but then again it does not look like the safest or most reliable option…”
Keith “Actually… I do like this car. A bit surprised at myself. It just looks… cool. But then, also lame and unexciting to drive around looking at the performance specs. Maybe a test drive can change our mind?”
Halvson G2F Harrier sPORT 2.0 Wagon @lotto77
Amanda “Does not look too bad, modern actually. Looks like it has good safety options, but did you see the amount of recalls already on this?? We will have to constantly throw money at it. No way!”
Keith “Well, I do have to agree. Not very practical either, tiny boot for an estate.”
(The lowest reliability of the bunch, average safety, bad fuel economy and high price/running costs makes it undesirable. It does look good and was close to the cutoff.)
IKIGAI ES300 @Lanson
Amanda “I must say… I do not hate the look. Not too aggressive.” Keith looks giggly “However! looking at the spec sheet, it does look like a widower. I am not even sure if I could drive this thing. You do want to stay alive right? Keith? Are you listening to anything I am saying!?!”
Keith drools “What? Yeah, I agree. Wait, what? I mean it does look good and I’d love to drive that on the…” Amanda is being impatient “but yeah, we can’t really buy that. Those seats do look plushy tho, let me tak…” Amanda closes the browser page abruptly
(Keith loved it but it was way too much for Amanda. Lowest drivability, lower than average safety, reliability and practicality, but it is comfortable and stylish.)
Saarland Ambrosia Pilger 2.2 @Knugcab
Amanda “That looks like a sensible option. Looks a bit dated tho. Seems to be well equipped safety-wise.”
Keith “I don’t hate it but… does look a bit lame to pick up the kids with. Feels slow on paper. The boot is big tho.”
Dongsun S-Series BW 1.6 W @Hilbert
Amanda “Another looker in the same vein as the Courageux, and it’s so friggin’ cute! Too bad it does not seems to be super safe to drive around… However, it does seems reliable, practicle, it is the cheapest option here, running costs are great, and you won’t kill yourself driving that.”
Keith “Seriously? You just like anything yellow… It’s a small death trap again. Steel panels of super low quality, it’s from Korea, it will rust instantly. The seats looks like they are out of a rollercoaster ride. I am not sure it even moves…” Stern look from Amanda “… but sure let’s keep it on the list”
Hakaru Astura MPV 1.8iS 4WD @Executive
Amanda “Looks costly to buy and run, and I hear those Japanese cars are not very comfortable… Although reliable.”
Keith “Oh a JDM import - it does look cool, but yeah it might be a bit high for our budget. Seems sensible, but nothing exciting. A good middle ground tho.”
Murasaka Vivid Maxi 1.8 Premium X-Cross Package @BannedByAndroid
Amanda “It looks fun and quirky, I like it! Great fuel economy, price is ok, it looks decently safe.”
Keith *“Come on!! It has like 0 horsepower. I hear they have shit transmissions as well, barely drivable.” sarcastically “But suuuuure, let’s keep the weird quirky japanese car on the list.” Amanda kisses him on the cheek, oblivious to the sarcasm *
WM Walton 300ES @abg7
Amanda “Oh god, another widow maker. Way too sporty, and I do not dig the look. Seems super hard to drive. Hard pass.”
Keith *“Hard pass!? I agree it does not look great, but did you look at the specs… Looks like a blast to drive, comfortable, economical, and saf…” Amanda rolls eyes and skip to the next one *
(Unfortunately, while Keith liked the car for the performance and balanced stats, the styling was not to their liking, the price high, and drivability one of the lowest. Also a bit too sporty for Amanda. It was close to the cutoff tho.)
Aether Aurum SR160 Tourer @Yegoloda
Amanda “This one looks modern and cool… but something is bothering me.”
Keith “I do like it, but I agree. It loooks cheap inside, and it seems very average, nothing great stands out for the price.”
(Despite the styling, the value was not there. Drivability was one of the lowest, same for comfort. Good reliability tho, but not enough to save it. Noisier engine than average as well.)
Argenteri Prospera 3.0T @TheYugo45GV
Amanda “Not a bad looking car. Does look super safe and comfortable, but not very practical. I heard they are super unreliable. Also, look at that price!!”
Keith “The fuel economy is not great either. Looks sluggish. Let’s pass this one.”
(While it was the safest car of all entries, it was subpar in many categories, especially fuel econ/service costs (worst combo) and reliability. Was also costly, and did not tickle Keith’s need for performance.)
Hirochi Exemplar 2.0 Estate Manual @nicholasrams774
Amanda “That one looks cheap… but not in a good way. Not at lot of redeeming value.”
Keith “I do not like how it looks either, and while not the worst, it does not look super sporty or fun to drive. Pass.”
(It was unfortunately the most average entry in most category, slightly below in many. A bit too low even at such a low price. They do want some value. Low drivability did not help.)
Hudson Matterhorn V8R @Hudso
Amanda “That one has caught me by surprise. Very Land Rover-y. I… kinda like it. A lot. Looks super safe for the kids, good visibility, super practical and a ton of cargo, 3 extra seats at the rear, but it is costly…”
Keith “And a gas guzzler! Not very reliable from what I heard… but I’d look great in that! While not sporty per se, it does pack a punch and looks fun to drive around. Not what we discussed, but we both like it enough to go for a test drive.”
Durendal 633E @GassTiresandOil
Amanda “Who put that one in the list?? Keith, we talked about it - this is a family car, not your personal sports car…”
Keith “Baby, this one looks so cool and agressive! What a purebred! It is super reliable, decently comfortable, and the running costs are great.” Amanda shrugs “Seriously! I am tired of you walking all over m…”
Amanda “Keith!” that caught him by surprise, Amanda has a look that could kill “do you really want to have that conversation right now?”
Keith “But I… I…” he looks at her for what seems like an eternity and slowly calms down “I guess not. Love you babe.”
(Barely, barely missed the cutoff. If it was a tad more tamed for Amanda, it would have been a shoe-in. The price and the low practicality/cargo was not great, low drivability, but everything else excited Keith a lot. Just not enough for him to put his foot down… it was really close to generate a big argument.)
Mara Kavaler 4.0 WLX @AndiD
Amanda “I am getting tired now. Last one. Looks decent, comfortable and easy to drive. What do you think?”
Keith “We already kept the Saarland and Hakaru. Beside being more comfortable, it does not look much better. Not very safe nor reliable. I think we are done for the night.”
(A bit average, with low reliability and security, despite being one of the most comfortable entry and a good drive. Not a bad car at all, there were just slightly better entries.)
A ton of quality entries and diversity, it was fun but also not easy to judge. You had to please or at least not displease Amanda for this round. The cutoff was really hard to do, but it ended up a 8-8 split.
So the people going to the 1C round finals are:
