Realism Challenge 5- Super Economy Car

… derp, I just made a huge mistake. Time to fly back to the workshop.

Nice body choice, @dragawn here’s my Sprite Mk4.

Also with 150hp.

aye, it’s a nice lightweight body, shame that the rear engine space is so limited though, seems like we’ll be competing directly.

Seeing that torque curve made me realize I totally dun goofed on my engine design. I just cut off the revs at 150hp and didn’t even think of making the engine smaller and rev higher to make the same horsepower. 7300RPM for a 1.5L I6 is just pitiful. Oh well.

I’d say right around 11,000 rpms would be good for a 150hp straight 6

:stuck_out_tongue:

you guys are going straight to the limit literally aren’t you? 150hp. and on a hatchback.

meanwhile i made a small sports coupe that gets around 35mpg and only makes 132 hp.

my 104 hp engine should easily beat this one considering 2012 is not allowed for the challenge :stuck_out_tongue:

edit: never mind, just noticed the other post.

I also went up to the limit with my 1.5-litre straight four, and in the small roadster category it should be enough. 150 horsepower is insufficient for larger cars, though.

Lol my car is based on the idea that in Australia P plates mean no v8’s! So I built the economy version of what will become DSD’s first full production vehicle (in my imagination) with a 1.3L 10000rpm v6 screamer. This way when the driver comes off of their P plates they can swap in the turbo version of the v6 which is both larger at 1.7L and produce nearly twice the power (yes our first production turbo car). Or the choice of our two v8 engines, our 9L 444hp big block or the lightweight flatplane 333hp 3.5L small block with DOHC heads

i do belive that 2010 is the newest model year for the challenge.

1990 is the earliest year. For reference, my entry is model year 1998, as is its engine, so it is eligible.

And the low cost will make it attractive for tuners, who will either upgrade the existing engine or replace it with a much more powerful one… And they should retune the suspension, brakes and gearbox to match.

@CamKerman is this alive or dead?

I hope this challenge is still active…:relaxed:

We could settle this and say I won!

hahahaha, you must be joking. you know who’s the winner here…

certainly not you. or me :stuck_out_tongue:

well if this challenge is going to die you can all send me your cars and I’l post the scores up as per this[quote=“CamKerman, post:6, topic:16590”]
Cars will be scored on their-Specific Outputs (engines larger than 1.5l will miss out on points because of the inability to get 100 bhp/l as per the rules)drivabilitysportinesssafetyeconomypriceunderpinningsenginebody and fixture design, placement and orientation.

I really hope this isn’t dead! It was quite a fun little challenge I was rather looking forward to seeing the result. @Darkshine5 not a bad idea at least we can all get a end result if indeed it ends up dead.

I am back, sorry for the long hiatus. My computer died and getting it up and running again has been an almighty pain in the backside. I will have to reinstall all of the entries and score them. My typewriter is at the ready, no seriously I have one. Expect the results in before Friday. TR8R, unfortunately, in all seriousness you so far are pretty much dead last, this is all I can reveal so far as I previously mentioned and any model using a date later than 2010 will not be considered towards the end result.
