The Crowd Sourcing Competition [Round 49]

It reminds me of those bull-nosed BMW coupes of recent years, but those nostrils are more gracefully integrated.

From out of the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, a new gladiator rises. Gruppo Stile Ercolano has masterfully combined the signature looks of Invictae past with inspiration drawn from the camps of Spartacus himself.

The new Invicta will derive its brutal strength from a Pilati designed V12 engine driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed double clutch gearbox. Its strength is matched only by the agility of its lightweight, all aluminum construction.

The 2018 Pilati Invicta

By Bateman Design Studios.

Designed to entice the driver, the 2018 Pilati Invicta has been designed both aesthetically and mechanically as a timeless piece.

A modern driver's car, the 2018 Invicta will bring back the classic brand with a front mounted roaring NA V12, rear wheel drive, and a 7 speed manual transmission.

The design evokes a timeless beauty, with cues carefully taken from previous Invictas but never outright copied, leading to a car that feels fresh and familiar.

The car shown is a prototype, design and engineering details may change before release.

PROTIP: don’t think you’ll be able to speedrun finishing a car after volunteering at a show all weekend it sucks.

I forgot to mirror the badges on the side…

god damn
how the hell did it goes to 2020? i thought i set it to 2018, damn u automation for setting the date wrong again

Yeah, I definitly saved it as 2018… I must admit I’m kinda salty to be excluded from a design focused competition for that.

I’ll give you my review, since I think it’s unfair your work goes unnoticed. Personally, although I’m not a fan of the body choice, I do enjoy the way the front grille lines up with thw hood bulge, and it’s “P’d off” face gives it an aggressive vibe. The black wheels go very nicely with the black paint as well. In theory, the sunroof design shouldn’t work, since it doesn’t line up with the top of the windscreen, but in practice, it looks delightful. The back of the car looks very neat, and although I’ve seen better back designs the proportions are spot on. Overall I would give it 8/10. Definetly could be one of my top 5 designs.
edit: If anyone elses car who got instabinned would like a review from me just give me a call. I woun’t count mine (I misunderstood the rule) or Duce’s (since the mid engine layout goes against the spirit of the challenge), but the others I feel shouldn’t have been instabinned

Didn’t get binned, stonks!

yea, I would say it’s a bug, also, i dont think the year affects how the car looks, which is the only thing matter here

That’s the same problem I encountered in CSR 137 - one of the entries had an engine whose variant year was 2014 instead of 2018 as the OP had stipulated. That time I also encountered a car whose wheelbase was too long (3.1m when rounded up to the nearest 0.1m, well above the 2.9m upper limit), but that car turned out to be too min-maxed to have any chance of passing the first round of judging anyway. As for this:

To that I would like to add: In reality it looks rather bare, with minimal sculpting (and none at all in places) through body molding (either with 2D or 3D fixtures) compared to some other entries, which would have ruled it out immediately.

do u want a new .car file instead? i fear the old one is bugged even u reimport the car

well i guess rules are rules

but damn does it feel shitty to get binned in a design challenge for engineering

does my car at least look decent?

It definitely is.

As for engine placement/drivetrain combination requirements: Not so long ago, I launched CSR 137 with a requirement that every car had to not only be front-engined (after witnessing the fallout of a mid-engined car winning PDC5 first-hand), but also RWD and have a longitudinally mounted engine - only to be forced to allow the use of front longitudinal AWD configurations after backlash from potential entrants. It’s the same story with CSC 47, but with the important difference that the host did not allow anything other than a front longitudinal RWD configuration.

well that was csr, where engineering is as or more important than styling. this also happens to be a case of just not properly reading the rules

I was definitely expecting to make it to at LEAST the first round lol. Stupid engine configuration in a styling challenge!!!

I did prepare for this tho, the car WILL be back, albeit with a different name…and maybe slightly different styling on the front but the theme will remain the same.

Good luck to the rest of you!!

So If I can prove to you that it was a bug it will be accepted? There is no way to prove this, because we are already three patches later since I’ve sent you the export. But does it matter really though? Are you trying to have a fair competition or are you just trying to reduce the workload? But let me cut this short, as you know yourself, you have no obligation and don’t need to review my submission.

Listen, I know hosting a competition is a lot of work, and there is only so much time one can offer for a competition. But on the other hand you have people, who have invested many hours preparing something for your competition, and you throw out instabins for something that can be fixed in literally one minute. Of course, you are technically correct. But I see this as after work fun with a community, and not some sort olympic discipline where even the slightest technical unimportance will kick you out. Hope you also see the other side.

Again, thanks for hosting and putting in the effort to continue the community challenges.

I hope future challenge hosts would choose a limit on the amount of participants instead of looking for insignificant reasons for instabins in order to limit the amount of work.

This is my last reply regarding this situation, since I don’t want to further derail this thread.

I don’t think you are getting my point.

Imagine organizing a sport event for your friends, telling everybody should have the matching jerseys for the red and blue team. And that everybody should have the right shoes. Everybody arrives in the right gear, but there is Peter and Billy. Peter has brought his super illegal spiky shoes with him. You tell Peter, that he cannot play, because it would be an unfair advantage to the others. Then Billy had everything correct, except he has pink socks on. You tell Billy he cannot play, because he does not respect the rules. Billy says, “I have some red pairs in my backpack”, and you say, “nope sorry, only if you can prove the socks were red when you started from home and it was not your fault”.

Again, you are within your right - and did nothing wrong  But there is a difference between Peter and Billy

Ok. Since this has caused such a fuss, I will turn a blind eye to the instabins.

Because those rule infractions are insignificant. Because this is a design-only challenge. And nothing else matters.

In fact, I will do more than just turn a blind eye. I am giving you 24 hours to investigate this mysterious game-breaking bug.

And that 24 hour extension applies to everyone. Do what you will with that time. As before, unlimited resubmissions are allowed until the deadline, and when the deadline passes I will take the latest file.

After that, It is FINAL.
