I was just now thinking about this, what kind of car did you really want for this challenge? Not to say your judging was wrong or that the brief was bad, but the cars in the inspiration were all basically super GTs, and I know that mine was a bit too “boat” for even that, but you seemed to be comparing it to more super and less GT.
What IRL car (other than the Invicta styling ofc) would you consider most fit for this brief?
I thought the suggested inspirations already gave us a good hint of what Kookie is looking for? Examples such as the Ferrari 812, Jaguar F type and Aston Martin One-77 are all GTs with actually decent (good, even) handling with a sleek and athlete design. Additionally, super GTs as a whole (If it’s actually a real category) are not really GTs in a traditional sense. I would even say most of the inspiration provided are actually supercars or sports cars with hints of GT characteristics. The brief also mentions that:
the Pilati Invicta’s formula of an FR V12 layout, agile handling and a competitive top speed
This makes it very oblivious that this round is not looking for more traditional GTs like the Bentley Continental GT but the Supercar / GT amalgam. On top of that, it is also said that:
… the last generation Invicta GT was criticised for having lost a bit of its DNA and being too soft to be a “true” Invicta.
This pretty much confirmed that what Kookie is looking for isn’t a mild and conservative GT, but a more aggressive design akin to a supercar.
I was in the middle of responding to this but Tsundere came in and basically hit it on the head lol.
The pics higher up in the list are more relevant than the others (so basically I wanted a Ferrari), but I felt that they all had the sort of look I wanted. Yours looked more on the luxury GT end, kinda like a Bentley Continental.
As for @DuceTheTruth100, I’m glad we can understand where each of us is coming from.
It’s certainly a much better interaction than I’ve seen with 90% of challenge drama lol.
I’ll always strongly suggest seeking feedback on any design you feel uncertain about, and the discord is definitely a good place for that (most of the time). I wish you the best of luck with future challenges, and I have no doubt you’ll continue to improve your skills.
Your verdicts on the top 4 entries (from which a winner will inevitably be chosen) were spot-on:
I can’t wait to find out who takes top honours this time round!
And @Xepy I have to tip my hat to you for combining a loud exterior colour (in this case, a bright sunny yellow) with a relatively understated design. By the way, what body did you use to make your design? Especially since it’s virtually unrecognizable under all those 3D fixtures you stacked on top of it.
The '06 3-series body is an unlikely choice for a build like yours, and one of the few submissions in this round to be based on it. However, with the changes to its morphing zones, it’s now a more convincing choice for a 2-door sports car/grand tourer build (especially the larger ones - I suspect you chose the one with a ~2.8m wheelbase, judging by the exterior proportions) than it once was - and it works especially well here.
It certainly wasn’t easy to choose between the incredible selection of designs from the finalists, but the CEO and the design team had to make a choice to move forward for the new Pilati Invicta. Finally, they unanimously settled on one proposal…
@Tsundere-kun - Pilati Invicta by Cascina Design Studio
This was the best overall package, with a stunning design that has great sculpting and checks off every design feature I wanted to see. It just needs some minor changes to be perfect for the debut of the new Invicta. Congrats!
This was really close to the top spot, with simple yet effective shaping and great modernisation of the traditional design features. However, I'm not a fan of the front grille design. It's a unique feature that'll definitely turn heads, but unfortunately it's not for me.
The exceptional skill of body sculpting on display here boosts this entry a lot, however it's let down by the lack of some traditional features such as the fender vents, as well as the front fascia design which looks a bit awkward on its own.
This entry also has some good molding, especially the side "blade" which is expertly done. I also liked the stance of the car with the wheels being pushed all the way out to the corners, but it suffers from the same issue as the Zephorus-designed proposal — it lacks some of the traditional elements and the front fascia is a bit lacking for me.
A fitting result, without a doubt. It fit the company’s design brief closer than anything else. The other finalists gave it a good run for its money, though.
